Billie Eilish releases self-directed music video for new single Chihiro starring The Fault in Our Stars actor Nat Wolff

Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish has released her new video for her single Chihiro, which features actor Nat Wolff.

The Grammy-winning artist, 22, directed the clip for the track, which is the second single from her album Hit Me Hard and Soft, coming on the heels of her first release from the record, Lunch.

The Los Angeles native said in a news release that she had 'envisioned a dream-like narrative' for the music video.

Eilish said that in an effort to 'symbolize the different corners of the mind,' she included imagery of 'long, dark hallways and shutting of doors' in the clip.

In the video, Eilish is seen making her way down a series of hallways in a drab institutional building, eventually convening with Wolff.

There are interspersed clips in the video of Eilish donning a maroon sweater with horizontal khaki stripes as she's singing in front of what appears to be a highway overpass.

The 'inescapable connection' between the two described by Eilish is depicted as they make their way out of the building and into a grassy field, where they playfully wrestle and eventually embrace one another.

The idea behind the interaction between the characters, according to Eilish, was the 'external expression of an internal push and pull, as our deepest feelings of fear, love, or desire inevitably catch up to us, no matter how hard we try to run away.'

The Eilish-directed clip had more than 1.23 million YouTube views in its first five hours of release Thursday, two weeks since the release of a lyrics video for the song that has racked up 7.7 million views on the platform.

On Spotify, the song has been played more than 133 million times.

The video for Eilish's single for Lunch was uploaded May 17 and has accumulated more than 25 million views in the weeks since.

Eilish took to Instagram on May 16 with a clip in which she sat alongside her brother and musical collaborator Finneas, 26, speaking about their latest creative endeavor.

She captioned the post: '"Dude "HIT ME HARD AND SOFT" my third album is f***ing out now i don’t even know what to SAAYY...'

Eilish added that she and her sibling 'put so much into this album and have never ever ever loved something more.'

Eilish said, 'We hope you enjoy it so much and i’ll see you on the other side EEEEEEEEEEEEEK HMHAS OUT NOW EVERYWHERE LOVE YOU ALL TO DEAAAAATH!!!!'

Eilish and her sibling previously collaborated on two studio albums: 2019's When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and 2021's Happier Than Ever.

She told Rolling Stone in April that she feels the new record best captures her essence.

'I feel like this album is me,' Eilish said. 'It's not a character. It feels like the When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? version of me. It feels like my youth and who I was as a kid.'

Eilish is slated to embark on a tour in support of the album in North America this autumn.
