Fans of iconic ABC kid's series Play School have gone wild after the show brought back some veteran presenters for a reunion episode - and shared some amazing throwback photos to mark the occasion.

The images posted to Instagram on Thursday captured returning presenters Monica Trapaga, Georgie Parker, Don Spencer and George Spartels as they originally looked on the show.

Alongside the throwback snaps, recent pictures of the four hosts were shared, which captured them on the set of the new spinoff series Big Ted's Time Machine.

The two pictures of Trapaga - who co-hosted the series from 1990 - 1998 - saw her posing up a storm to the camera with a huge grin on her face.

In the first image, Trapaga looks adorable in a blue polo shirt and jeans and sports a short hairstyle.

In her 'now' image, the beloved presenter is '60s cool as she dons a colouful shift dress and sports a styled mini beehive.

Meanwhile, the pictures of Parker, Spencer and Spartels also showed that their love and enthusiasm for the show had not diminished at all in the years since they left.

It didn't take long for many of the program's celebrity fans to flock to the comment section and gush over the precious photos.

'Stop it!' joked fitness influencer Steph Claire Smith, before Simone Callahan added a love heart emoji.

'Absolute Australian icons right here,' another person gushed, with another fan noting: 'Georgie Parker, you don't age'!

'What a blast from the past,' someone else added.

Play School is one of Australia's longest-running programs, having first premiered in July 1966 and still being broadcast to this day.

In September, ABC Australia shared behind-the-scenes secrets of filming the iconic series.

The broadcaster posted a video to TikTok, revealing the reality of filming the long-running children's show.

In the video, presenters Andrew and Kaeng were seen singing while holding toys including Humpty and Big Ted in a boat.

The camera then pans out to reveal several cast members sitting on the floor and moving a blue sheet from side to side to imitate waves.

Others are also seen holding birds and fish on longs sticks and slowly moving them into the frame.
