Comedian Sophie McCartney has said she could 'never' throw out a breastfeeding mother from her comedy show the way fellow entertainer Arj Barker did last month.

The American, 49, faced backlash in April when he kicked out mother Trish Faranda from his Melbourne Comedy Festival show for being disruptive while she was breastfeeding her seven-month-old daughter Clara.

Now, Sophie, who is a mother-of-three herself and currently on her Tired and Tested comedy tour, has told Daily Mail Australia she thinks a 'rowdy mum' who has had too many drinks is far more 'disruptive' than a hungry baby.

'It is a difficult one because I would never say no to a breastfeeding mother bringing their baby in, but I think it's at venue discretion,' she said.

'I've probably had more problems with rowdy mums who have had too much to drink and that would be more of a disruption than a breastfeeding baby.'

She continued: 'I wasn't there on the night, I can't gauge how disruptive it was for [Arj]. All I can say from my perspective - a female, a mum, and comedian - everyone is welcome.'

The award-winning comedian went on to say she often found herself 'on the fence' about the situation because '[Arj] didn't know she was breastfeeding, he heard a noise and that was it'.

'It can be disruptive, but also a baby has got to eat and a baby has been allowed in. It's difficult. I really sit on the fence from a motherhood perspective and a comedic perspective,' she added.

Sophie is about to embark on the Australian leg of her Tired and Tested comedy tour which pokes fun at the gritty realities of parenthood.

She will kick off her tour at the Brisbane Powerhouse on June 2, before moving on to the Athenaeum Theatre Melbourne on June 5 and Sydney's Factory Theatre on June 6.

Sophie will then wrap up her Down Under shows in Perth on June 7 at the Astor Theatre before jetting over to New Zealand.

It comes after Arj made headlines last month when Trish claimed she was humiliated and reduced to tears after she and baby Clara were booted from the theatre during his comedy show.

She said Clara was babbling and 'had a bit of a whinge' before Trish gave her a feed, at which point Arj ordered her to leave about 15 minutes into the gig because they were 'disrupting his show'.

'It is a difficult one because I would never say no to a breastfeeding mother bringing their baby in... I've probably had more problems with rowdy mums who have had too much to drink and that would be more of a disruption than a breastfeeding baby,' she said

Arj said baby Clara should not have been at his over-15s show in the first place, but he has since apologised to Trish for the embarrassment caused.

Days after the incident, the actor made a light-hearted attempt to make amends during an appearance on Sunrise.

'I hope you're doing okay. I'm sorry that that was a difficult situation, and I would like to make peace,' he said.

'I would like to meet up with her and have a serious discussion about selling the movie rights and go 50-50.

'Also, to the beautiful baby who I have nothing against, I want to offer that little child a ticket to my show post-dated 2039.'

Arj admitted it was an unfortunate and tricky situation for everyone involved.

'I'm not gonna hide because I want people to know the truth of what happened, at least from my perspective,' he said.

'Both myself and the woman were put in a position we shouldn't have been in.'

Arj insists he has no issue with public breastfeeding which he described as perfectly natural, and at the time he did not know that's what she was doing.
