Zara McDermott hints she could follow in boyfriend Sam Thompson's footsteps by signing up for I'm A Celebrity after he was crowned King Of The Jungle

He sent fans into a frenzy when he was crowned King Of The Jungle last year.

And Sam Thompson's girlfriend Zara McDermott has hinted that she could follow in his footsteps by signing up for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The Love Island star, 27, admitted it could be a struggle to 'follow' her boyfriend after he was named the series champion.

Speaking to Gaby Roslin on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Zara said: 'Who knows, you never know what's going to happen. I don't know if I could follow his crowning. How could I ever follow that?'

Zara was competing on Strictly Come Dancing while Sam jetted to Australia to move into the jungle, and his best friend Pete Wicks flew out to support him instead.

Asked how it felt watching him on-screen, Zara added: 'The end of Strictly and the jungle overlapped so I couldn't go but his best friend Pete went out there. It was lovely for them to have that moment.'

During his time in the jungle, Sam was joined by JLS star Marvin Humes, and quickly shared his dream of performing with the entire band.

That dream then became a reality when Sam took to the stage to sing with the group on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

The moment left viewers delighted with many taking to social media to say how happy it made them feel.

Discussing the viral moment, Zara told Gaby: 'He didn't sleep for 2 days. The adrenalin was through the roof. He was wired. 

'His eyes were like ''oh my god, what just happened''. He had to have singing lessons and choreography through the day for that. 

'He got a vocal coach to do that performance. I didn't think he did too bad, I think he'd be a good singer if he worked on it a bit more.'

Zara added that should she and Sam decide to take to the stage together, they'd perform a duet of Shallow from Lady Gaga's film A Star Is Born.

It comes after Zara clapped back at societal expectations of women to get married and have children, saying: 'Women are so much more than child-bearers!' 

She recently launched Rise clothing, which pledges to cater for different body types, and secured an exclusive deal with Tesco F&F to sell the range.

During an interview with Hello! magazine, Zara was asked what the next steps for her and Sam were, and if she would consider marriage.

Zara shot back: 'I think there's this expectation that people need to get married, have kids, this fairy-tale experience. Nowadays, women are so much more than people to marry and child-bearers! 

'I'm an independent career woman. I'll do these things when I'm ready, not when society tells me to do them. I don't think relationships should be put in a box. I absolutely do not want children anytime soon - right now I'm happy to be selfish.

'Sam and I barely get any time together as it is! We're really, really happy as we are and we love our little fur babies Albus and Cedric [their cats].'

Children would also mean less time with the couple's best friend Pete whom Zara happily shared was at the top of her list for who to call when she's in trouble. 

Sam and Zara's relationship has been going from strength to strength since they got back together in 2020 following a brief split.

Fans were convinced an engagement announcement was imminent in February, when the couple enjoyed a sun-soaked break in Dubai.
