One big change coming to Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie threatens to derail the Nova show: 'Their future is uncertain'

Nova's popular breakfast program Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie is set to receive a huge shakeup which insiders fear may threaten the dynamic of the show.

From early next year, long-time co-host Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald, 47, will be relocating to Adelaide with his family - but will continue to present the show remotely.

However, an industry insider is worried this move could impact the undeniable chemistry between the co-hosts and potentially turn away listeners.

'Fitzy moving to Adelaide and doing the show from there is a huge risk. The chemistry is never the same when hosts are not in the same studio,' they told Yahoo.

'Nova will have to work hard to maintain the same energy so the long distance doesn't convey on air.'

They added it was a particularly risky move because if the show loses listeners as a result, then the hosts contracts may not be renewed.

The show has been struggling for some time and it was reported earlier this month that since Kate Ritchie, 45, joined in March the program's rating have been dwindling.

The Radio Ratings 2023, Survey 7 results which were recently released revealed the breakfast show had fallen 0.2 points, from from 7.3 to 7.1.

Radio king Kyle Sandilands was quick to offer up his own theory as to why listeners were switching off.

'What's going on at Nova? They moved Kate Ritchie into the breakfast show with Fitzy and Wippa to try and make it not like a boys club,' he began.

'Failure, it's down to 7.1. It was on 7.3, it's slowly whittling away.'

And earlier this year, Fitzy, Wippa and Kate were shocked as one of their beloved stars quit live on air.

In November, longtime newsreader Matt de Groot announced he was stepping down from the role after 10 years.

An emotional de Groot, 35, held back tears as he surprised listeners with the news, revealing that he is relocating to London with his family early next year.
