Inside Out 2 trailer: Riley gets a new emotion - anxiety - which is an orange creature voiced by Maya Hawke in the sequel that will debut in 2024

Pixar has released the trailer for the upcoming film Inside Out 2.

The animated production is the long-awaited sequel to 2015’s original, Inside Out.

The original movie followed 11-year-old Riley, played by Kaitlyn Dias, and her five emotions — Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear, and Anger.

In the teaser for the second installment, audiences are introduced to Anxiety, a lovable orange character.

The forthcoming follow-up is slated for a June 14, 2024 release. 

The initial feature saw Riley relocate from Minnesota to San Francisco, struggling to adapt to her new normal.

Taxed by her overwhelming emotions and the typical hardships of growing up, she risked losing her friends and her family.

A close examination of Riley's mind saw Joy and Sadness work out how to co-exist as the young character adjusted to her new life.

The movie was so well-received that it earned a 2016 Academy Award for best animated feature.

At the time, film critic Brian Viner called it 'ingenious' and described it as 'an utterly beguiling story about the complex workings of a little girl’s mind.'

Inside Out 2 was announced last year at Disney’s D23 Expo. 

Meg LeFauve, who co-wrote the first film, returned to write for the second movie, with Kelsey Mann directing.

The enchanting trailer begins with a dreamy, piano-driven tune playing as a message flashes across the screen.

'The little voices inside your head know you inside and out,' a description across the screen reads.

Riley celebrates a birthday with a cake and her parents as a voiceover says, 'Our little girl is growing up so fast and things couldn't be better.'

The five emotions are then shown in a laboratory with a complex motherboard and a ominous beeping red light.

One of the feelings asks, 'What is that?' before a boulder crashes through a window and a group of construction workers join the screen.

'Let's clear it all out, it's demo day!' one shouts as the music ramps up with a version of Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train playing.

Eventually, the five original sentiments are introduced to Anxiety, who wants to make a 'good first impression.'

A star-studded cast for the film includes Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black.

Maya Hawke, daughter of Hollywood heavy hitters Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, joins the fun for the second feature.

Mark Nielsen serves as the producer for the summer 2024 flick.

Liza Lapira will step in to replace Mindy Kaling as the voice of Disgust.
