He continued: 'Hey Lewis now that I have you here alone let me just tell you how deeply crushed I am that my music could ever get in the way of your song going number one.

'It's an amazing song and you're an amazing dude. I'm putting it on my Christmas playlist right now!

'Pointless is so beautiful, if it doesn't go number one Christmas should be canceled and maybe even Hanukkah and maybe that's too far I don't know but I do know this, I love you Lewis Capaldi'

It comes after Lewis started an unlikely festive feud with Michael, 47, as they battle it out for top of the charts.

The artists new single Pointless is currently in the UK top 50 in among several iconic Christmas songs including Michael's classic It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas which was released 11 years ago.

Lewis, who co-wrote the track with Ed Sheeran, said during his performance at Capital's Jingle Bell Ball: 'No one told me that it was probably a bad idea to release a song at Christmas, a song that has no reference to Christmas

'We're really being hammered in the charts by Christmas songs. Not that it matters, but you know, these record labels want some money.

'So, if anyone sees Michael Bublé, you let him know I'm looking for him. I've got a gripe to grind with Mr Bublé!'

Lewis put on a show-stopping performance at Capital's Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday.

The singer hit the stage and consoled England fans after the devastating World Cup loss against France, before teasing fans that he was bringing out Ed Sheeran to duet.

After learning England had been knocked out of the Qatar World Cup following their 1-2 loss against France, he said: 'It's a sad day, England are out of the World Cup, it's tough, it's tough!'

The Scottish singer, who casual figure in a black jacket and matching trousers with a white T-shirt, added: 'I'm going to try and lighten it here because I'm Scottish,' before he told the crowd of their reaction: 'Don't boo my nationality!'

Joking that he had asked Ed Sheeran to perform at the Jingle Bell Ball, he told the audience: 'Ladies and gentleman Ed Sheeran! He's not here, I did ask him but he said who is this? Stop calling me? So no Ed!'

It comes after Lewis poked fun at Ed as he overtook the hitmaker with the UK's most-streamed song of all time.

The impressive accolade has seen the singer knock Ed's 2017 track Shape Of You off the top spot with his 2018 single Someone You Loved.

Lewis' tune has been played 562 million times via audio and video, the Official Charts Company claimed.

According to the BBC , the Scottish hitmaker said: 'Listen… The Beatles, Drake, Metallica, The Eagles, Michael Jackson, don't worry guys, no hard feelings, I just had to take this one. Take a step back and let Daddy steer the ship now, OK?'

On beating the Suffolk-native, he added: 'Ed's a man who is like a brother to me, he's been a mentor, he's put his arm round me and said, 'Don't worry everything's going to be ok.'

'He's been nothing but kind and gracious and beautiful, a good friend in an ever-changing industry. So to Ed I say... nice guys finish last. You snooze you lose, kiddo. Keep up!'

Taking to Instagram, Lewis posed with his award while wearing an inflatable crown.

In his caption, he wrote: 'just heard that 'someone you loved' is officially the MOST STREAMED SONG of ALL TIME in the UK!!

'Will never cease to amaze me, thanks so much team!!! ❤️ x.'

Lewis recently claimed his third UK number one single with his comeback track, Forget Me.

The singer flew up the UK singles chart on Friday, with the star previously reaching the top spot with his 2019 hit Someone You Loved and 2020's Before You Go.

The new song comes three years after the release of Lewis' debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which spent 10 weeks at the top of the UK charts.

Last year the Scottish artist postponed all of his live shows to focus on recording a follow-up.
