Sparks flew on Wednesday night as young footy stars clashed during a feisty State of Origin encounter.

The best under 19 players from Queensland and New South Wales met at Leichhardt Oval on Thursday, with the Maroons aiming to avenge their 32-14 defeat to the Blues last year.

But during a nip-and-tuck first half, tempers boiled over after the Blues showed their grit to defend a Queensland set in front of their own try line.

After forcing a rival Queensland player out of play, the Blues celebrated wildly, but the Maroons were unhappy after one star stood over his opponent to taunt him.

Pushing and shoving entailed, with a handful of players ultimately falling into barriers separating fans from the pitch.

'They just want to be careful,' the commentator warned. 'There's a couple of players who have gone into the fence.

'You don't want to pick up an injury and miss out on playing the remainder of this game.'

As it was, Raiders rising star Chevy Stewart stole the show as the Blues secured a 14-10 victory and won U19s State of Origin for the third time in a row.
