New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito already had an edge over the New England Patriots and Washington Commanders before beating them in back-to-back games.

According to the NFL Network, both New England and Washington tried to sign the 25-year-old quarterback, only for him to refuse to leave his home state under any circumstance.

'To play in New Jersey and play for Brian Daboll's coaching staff,' said the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. 'That's why DeVito decided to play for the Giants.'

DeVito reportedly turned down 'significantly more guaranteed money' to play in Washington after going undrafted to sign with the Giants.

After his hometown team waived DeVito, the Patriots came knocking. However, the New Jersey native opted to stay with the Giants and got signed to their practice squad.

DeVito's decision to stay appears to have paid off. With quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor on injury reserve, DeVito has risen to be the Giants' starter and he has led them to back-to-back wins over the Commanders and Patriots.

DeVito completed 18 of his 26 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-19 victory over the Commanders in Week 11.

On Sunday, DeVito started again in a 10-7 win over the Patriots, in which he completed 17 of 25 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown.

DeVito has appeared in a total of five games this season. He has collectively completed 66 out of 105 passes for 697 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions.

Daboll, who was one of DeVito's reasons for staying in New Jersey, hailed DeVito's progress following Sunday's win.

'Absolutely, really since the OTA's,' Daboll said when asked if he noticed DeVito's improvement. 'We got a lot of work on still; he's only had three starts. Two and one, I think, in three starts and certainly, I think we'd like to do better. It was good to get this win.'

The Giants are 4-8 for the season and sit third in the NFC East. DeVito is likely to start against the Green Bay Packers on Monday as the Giants look to extend their win-streak to three games.
