Conor McGregor shows support for Justin Timberlake after pop star's DWI arrest with 'Free JT' post online

Conor McGregor has shown support for Justin Timberlake on social media after the popstar was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old, MMA fighter took to Instagram to voice his opinion on Timberlake, 43, being cited for running a stop sign and failure to keep in lane in Sag Harbor, New York, barely 24 hours after the incident.

'Free JT!' he wrote over a TMZ post of Timberlake's arrest on Wednesday.

It's unclear how close McGregor is to the former NSYNC member but the former once referred to Timberlake as his 'brother' when they were spotted together at a UFC 200 event back in 2016.

Timberlake also quoted McGregor at one of his concerts earlier this year, saying: 'I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f***ing nobody.'

FRIENDS: McGregor and Timberlake are believed to be close as both are fans of each other

Clearly, he was inspired by McGregor's UFC 205 post-fight interview with Joe Rogan in 2016, when 'Notorious' said after his victorious bout against Eddie Alvarez: 'I've ridiculed everyone on the roster... I just want to say from the bottom of my heart... I'd like to take this chance to apologize…to absolutely nobody!'

On Tuesday, it was revealed that McGregor was spending time with his family while recovering from an injury that prevented him from fighting Dustin Poirier later this month, despite an MMA analyst claiming that he was in rehab for alcohol and substance treatment.

On Sunday, McGregor posted a picture on Instagram with his baby son to celebrate Father's Day. He has four children with his partner Dee Devlin.

The Irishman also posted a $60,000 bet slip on Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo to finish as Euro 2024's top scorer.

The last time that McGregor fought was in 2021, losing to Dustin Poirier in Las Vegas after breaking his leg in the bout.

But as McGregor recovers from his latest injury, UFC legend Matt Brown claims that the the former featherweight and lightweight champion will never return to the ring.

'It didn't shock me when I saw he was out of this fight. No I'm still on that same train - he's not ever coming back,' he said on the latest episode of the podcast The Fighter vs The Writer.
