Fans fear that Conor McGregor has pulled out of his UFC return after Dublin press conference is cancelled and UFC chiefs 'sent out feelers' over potential replacement to fight Michael Chandler

  • The pair are set to face off at UFC 303 on June 29 to end their long-running feud
  • A press conference was scheduled to take place in Dublin, Ireland on Monday
  • It was, however, cancelled, with no reason given by anyone due to be involved

Fans have been left concerned that Conor McGregor is set to pulled out of his scheduled UFC return.

The Irishman is set to take on long-term rival Michael Chandler at UFC 303 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on June 29 in what would be McGregor's first fight for nearly three years.

Anticipation has been building for the event, but that was halted on Monday when the scheduled pre-fight press conference in Dublin was cancelled 12 hours before it was due to start.

No reason was given for why, with McGregor taking to social media to explain that 'a series of obstacles outside of our control' caused the cancellation.

Fight fans are now unclear on what the future holds for the 35-year-old, with uncertainty engulfing the bout that was supposed to signal the biggest return in UFC history.

'In consultation with the UFC, todays press conference was cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control,' McGregor, who has shared a number of workout videos on social media since breaking his leg in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier, said. 'I apologise to my Irish fans, and fans around the world, for the inconvenience and appreciate all your passion and support.

'I can’t wait to put on the greatest all-time show in the Octagon.'

In their earlier statement, released on Monday morning, the UFC said: 'The UFC 303 press conference scheduled for Monday, June 3 in Dublin, Ireland at 3Arena has been  postponed until further notice.

'We sincerely apologise to all the fans who were planning to attend. When we have further information on a new date and time, we will share it with you immediately.'

'Damn - rumors about UFC 303 McGregor v Chandler being cancelled,' one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter, after the cancellation. 'I really hope the UFC makes the right decision. Might be time for McGregor to retire - how many times can he have a "comeback"?'

'McGregor not making his highly anticipated comeback is comedy,' a second added. 'I wonder what Chandler is thinkin.'

A third wrote: 'The McGregor fight was never going to happen in June.'

According to Ariel Helwani, the hope is that the fight will still take place but the UFC have sent out feelers to see who could either step in as a replacement for McGregor or compete in the headline fight of the night.

It is suggested that there is positivity around the bout taking place, but it remains unclear on if it will.

Chandler, meanwhile, appeared to cool concerns, writing on Instagram: 'If you're looking for me, I'll be out in Tennessee.

'No way out of the life we chose… Walk On. See you at the top!'
