- The sides went in 0-0 at half time after a stalemate first period on Tuesday night
- Nine players were booked in the course of a fiery, no-holds-barred encounter
- With 10 minutes left, Porto's Mehdi Taremi had a goal disallowed for handball
Atletico Madrid played out a fiery 0-0 draw against Porto in their Champions League opener at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday evening which saw nine players booked.
After a stalemate first half, Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak saw his blushes spared when he misjudged an Otavio cross but saw the ball bounce off the inside of the post and away.
There was late drama with 10 minutes left, when Porto striker Mehdi Taremi had the ball in the net, but after a VAR check the referee adjudged the Iranian handled the ball over the line, leaving both sides deadlocked on one point in Group B.
Away defender Chancel Mbemba was sent off deep into stoppage time for cynically fouling Antoine Griezmann as he looked to run through on goal, with Luis Suarez bending the resulting free-kick narrowly over the bar.
