A reminder of the semi-finals line-ups and dates

Just before we finish up for the day, here's a quick run down of what is still to come as we approach the final week of Euro 2024.

On Tuesday, July 9 at 8pm the first sem-final between Spain and France will take place in the Allianz Arena Munich.

That will be followed by England vs Netherlands on Wednesday, July 10 coming from Signual Iduna Park, Dortmund.

The final is on Sunday, July 14 at the Olympstadion in Berlin.

Can England overcome the dreaded 'ITV curse'

Gareth Southgate's England has been able to banish many demons throughout his time in charge.

First came the issue of penalties as England beat Colombia in the 2018 World Cup.

This year the managed to exorcise the demons of Euros penalty shootouts when they beat Switzerland.

Now there is just one more left to overcome if they are to reach the final, and that is the ITV curse.

It was on ITV when England were dumped out of the 2022 World Cup by France.

And it will be ITV who broadcast England's tie with the Netherlands but this side has shown they are not fussed about what happened in the future. There is every reason to be optimistic as they continue to to overcome what those before them could not.

Jordan Pickford's best Sketch impression

Those eage eyed amongst you may have noticed it yesterday after the shootout when Aaron Ramsdale and Jordan Pickford celebrated together.

But the England stopper loves a Sketch impression, and he gives us a second impression on England's Twitter account.

A touching moment for Gareth Southgate

Gareth Southgate hit a milestone in England's win over Switzerland as he took charge of his 100th game in charge.

This year's tournament may not have seen the Three Lions play their best football but it has seen them make their third major tournament semi-final under the former England defender.

Wins in his 101st and 102nd games in charge will see England crowned champions of Europe.

So what are England's penalties secrets?

England fans have dealt with so much penalty shootout heartbreak in the past that the five perfect penalties may have come as a surprise.

But that is what they witnessed and there was several reasons for Gareth Southgate's side's success.

As England sent fans into raptures Alan Shearer still had time for a magnificent bit of commentary.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's final penalty slammed into the net prompting the former Newcastle man to declare 'Pressure? What Pressure? Pressure is for tyres'

A moment of pure joy punctuated by some fantastic commentary on BBC.

Mary Earps praises Jordan Pickford

Martin Brundle briefly caught up with Mary Earps on the Formula 1 grid and the new PSG goalkeeper had time to praise Jordan Pickford.

She said: 'Brilliant that they won, obviously goalkeeper union a great save from Jordan [Pickford] let's keep going, let's win the thing.'

Bukayo Saka leading the way

Bukayo Saka had the beating of his man Michel Aebischer for the entirity of England's quarter-final.

And the stats certainly backed that up with Saka completing all four of his attempted take-ons.

But as always from the Arsenal man, it was an all action perfomance, as he helped out with three tackles on his way to a player of the match performance.

Who was England's best performer?

England were still far from their best in the win over Switzerland but there was reason for optimism in the first half.

Gareth Southgate's side looked far brighter in possesion than they had done at any point in the tournament but they were still plagued by familiar issues.

Jordan Pickford's penalty shootout heroics

While much of the limelilght has shone on Bukayo Saka and rightfully so, some attention should be held back for Jordan Pickford.

The England goalkeeper has been effective for the Three Lions in the past and came up big once again.

And he was aided by his trusty cheat sheet on his water bottle that aided him in saving from Manuel Akanji.

The royal seal of approval

Prince William's football fandom is of no secret to anyone, he is often seen at Wembley when the national teams are playing.

So it was only fitting that the Prince of Wales was in attendance as England booked their place in semi-finals.

He was even on hand in the tunnel to congratulate the players as they came off the pitch.

What about the Netherlands?

England will face the Netherlands following their victory over Turkey.

The Dutch also had to somewhat do it the hard way as they fell behind in the first half but goals from Stefan di Vrij and a Mert Muldur own goal gave the Oranje their place in the semi-finals.

Bukayo Saka's redemption

How could we start anywhere else but with Bukayo Saka?

The Arsenal winger exorcised the demons of Euros past as he dragged England level in regular time before rolling home his penalty in the shootout.

Questions had been raised about his place in the team following the emergence of Cole Palmer throughout the Premier League season. But he answered the critics yesterday as the Three Lions' most effective attacker.
