England's Euro 2024 clash against Denmark on Thursday will be played under a closed roof, according to reports.

Severe weather warnings were issued across western and central regions of Germany on Wednesday, prompting multiple fan zones in Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen and Dusseldorf to close shop already.

Now, with Thursday's Group C match between England and Denmark at risk of delay due to adverse weather, UEFA has decided to close the roof on Frankfurt's Waldstadion in anticipation of similar conditions, according to talkSPORT.

The stadium's roof had already been shut in preparation for hosting the match, with Denmark's players due to train on the pitch on Wednesday evening.

The weather warning, issued by Germany's national meteorological service, DWD, read: 'Supercells can form, which are accompanied by severe squalls, sometimes even hurricanes between 90 and 120km/h (55mph to 75mph) and larger hail between 3 and 5cm. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.'

Ferry service organisers in Cologne, one of the host cities for Euro 2024, added: 'Due to an official storm warning from late morning with expected heavy rain, hail and heavy gusts of wind, all events and functions of the Host City Cologne associated with the European Championships have to be cancelled for today.'

German outlet BILD were even told by meteorologist Dominik Jung that the fierce storms posed a potential threat 'to life', as he urged the closures to fan zones were absolutely necessary.

'There is a risk to life,' he said ahead of England's second group stage match on Thursday. 'We don't currently know every place that could get hit, but we do know the region where something could happen.

'People will complain again: "We didn't have anything." But better safe than sorry.'

England edged out a tensely-fought 1-0 victory over Serbia in their opening game at Euro 2024, triumphing thanks to a well-taken first-half goal from Jude Bellingham.

Meanwhile, Denmark were held to a 1-1 draw against Slovakia, England's final opponents of the group stage, despite initially taking the lead through Christian Eriksen.
