Mail Sport football expert and It's All Kicking Off! podcast host Chris Sutton has revealed why he once slapped David Beckham.

On the latest episode of the podcast, Scotland fans out in Germany for Euro 2024 were afforded the chance to ask Sutton one question, with queries ranging from how good Henrik Larsson truly was to his favourite topping on a pizza.

Well into the questions, the former forward was asked about slapping the former England captain during a testimonial game between Celtic and Manchester United at Old Trafford, much to co-host Ian Ladyman's surprise.

Sutton broke out into laughter, joking that 'it was a long time ago', before being pushed into an explanation and admitting that the event did happen, and revealing the reason why.

Ladyman saw the funny side of things, joking that Sutton 'must not have washed your hand for weeks', though Sutton appeared more reluctant to discuss the situation.

Joking that it was, rather aptly, all kicking off, Ladyman was left staggered by the explanation of why his co-host put his hands on the English footballing icon over 20 years ago.
