Scotland defender Ryan Porteous will miss his nation's final two group games at Euro 2024 through suspension.

Porteous was sent off in Scotland's 5-1 defeat by Germany in the opening game of the tournament following a crunching challenge on Ilkay Gundogan, which led to a penalty.

It was initially expected that Porteous would be suspended for one game, but UEFA's control, ethics and disciplinary body have now increased his suspension by an extra match due to 'serious rough play'.

Porteous will be unavailable when Scotland play Switzerland on Wednesday and Hungary on Sunday.

Scotland's Euro 2024 campaign got off to a terrible start on Friday night and they now face a battle to turn matters around.

Porteous' ban was extended following his red card in Scotland's defeat by Germany

Germany opened the scoring through Florian Wirtz after just 10 minutes, with Jamal Musiala making it 2-0 nine minutes later.

Then came Porteous' red card, with Kai Havertz scoring from the subsequent penalty.

Scotland will take on Switzerland and Hungary in their remaining two group stage fixtures

Niclas Fullkrug made it 4-0 in the second half and although Scotland got a goal back after Antonio Rudiger scored an own goal, Emre Can later made it 5-1 to Germany.

There is still hope for Scotland to advance, especially as the four best third-placed teams will make it through to the round of 16.
