And it has now emerged that Fulham boss Silva also held talks with Ineos chiefs as they searched for a potential successor to Ten Hag.

Silva has bolstered his reputation at Craven Cottage. Having initially led the club back to the Premier League in 2022, the Portuguese has built a team that comfortably stayed in the top-flight in their two previous seasons.

Silva’s future could come under scrutiny again this summer as he emerges as a possible replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest.

Santo’s future at the City Ground is unclear heading into the summer and Silva has admirers at Forest.
