MATCH REPORT: Ukraine crash out of Euro 2024
Belgium spluttered into the last 16 where they will face France after failing to overcome Ukraine in the tightest of the Euro 2024 groups.
Serhiy Rebrov’s Ukrainians go out in cruel fashion after finishing bottom on goal difference despite earning four points like all the teams in Group E
Denmark qualified as runners-up in England’s group with three points.

De Bruyne questions the media after draw
Kevin De Bruyne snapped back at reporters after Belgium's draw.
The Man City star said;
We would've preferred to win [vs Ukraine], but so be it. Let me ask you this; what if we went all out attack and conceded a goal to go out? What will you [the media] tell us then?
We are not favourites against France, but we have to beat everyone to win Euro 2024. We've already been on the right side of the picture and still been eliminated so it doesn't mean much
MATCH REPORT: Romania top Group E
Slovakia and Romania secured the draw that both knew would be enough to see them through to the Euro 2024 knockout stages, though to their credit, each tried their best to disprove any conspiracists crying collusion before a ball was kicked.
Most of this match was played with a competitive edge, the final 10 minutes being the exemption when the fear of a loss seemingly seeped into the players’ minds. Wary of tumbling out of the tournament, it was then that this contest suddenly resembled walking football, the ball even being taken into the corner to protect this score draw.
There was joy and jubilation all around at the full-time whistle, with Ukraine the unlucky nation of the four in Group E to exit, despite all finishing on the same points.

Round of 16 games if Group F standings don't change
This is what the Round of 16 games would look like if Group F finishes tonight the way it starts in terms of the standings.
Spain vs Slovakia
Germany vs Denmark
Portugal vs Hungary
France vs Belgium
Romania vs Slovenia
Austria vs Turkey
England vs Netherlands
Switzerland vs Italy
Jubilant scenes for Romania and Slovakia
There was wild scenes at full-time after both Romania and Slovakia sealed their place in the knockout phase.
For Romania it is the first time since Euro 2000 that they have done so, while Slovakia previously reached the round of 16 in 2016.
Romania will play their Round of 16 game on Tuesday in Munich against one of the four best third placed teams - which at the moment looks like it could be Slovenia.
Slovakia on the other hand will either play Spain in Cologne on Sunday, or England in Gelsenkirchen on the same day.
De Bruyne targeted by a laser pen
Kevin De Bruyne was repeatedly targeted by a laser pen during the first half of Belgium's crunch clash with Ukraine on Wednesday,
The Manchester City midfielder had the green light flashed in his face in the 33rd minute as he stood over a free-kick on the right flank, and the game was briefly paused by referee Anthony Taylor when he pointed it out.
When Taylor blew his whistle for the set-piece to be taken, De Bruyne nearly caught Ukraine goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin out as he whipped a shot towards the near post when everyone had been expecting a cross.

Loud boos for Belgium by their supporters
There was some loud boos from their own supporters for Belgium at the end of that match.
They have been heavily disjointed, lacked pace other than Jeremy Doku and are in for a huge challenge when they play tournament favourites France.
Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco has a big job ahead of him this week.
France to face Belgium on Monday
Belgium were poor tonight.
Ukraine were the better side but lacked the cutting edge to put Belgium away - that 3-0 loss to Romania is the game they will look back and regret.
Belgium could have played a third placed team if they won this group, but instead they get France as their reward.
England will play either Slovakia or the Netherlands
So after those games, if England are to play Slovakia instead of the Netherlands, they need one of these sets of results from tonight's game.
- Portugal win or draw with Georgia, and Czechia beat Turkey by one or two goals
- Georgia and Turkey win
- Georgia and Czechia win
- Georgia win and Turkey draw
FULL-TIME - Ukraine are OUT of Euro 2024
It has finished goalless in Stuttgart. Belgium have advanced to the last-16 rather sheepishly, and Ukraine are out. Gutting for Ukraine. Out of the tournament with four points but it is the first time that all four sides finish on the same points and Ukraine are the unlikely side to miss out.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Boos from the Belgium fans as the ball is given away at the corner.
Ukraine are now on the attack, with Yarmolenko now on the pitch doing what he can to try find a winner for his side.
At the other end Belgium break with a 3 vs 2 attack and Bakayoko wastes an effort with a wild finish wide of the post.
Slovakia 1-1 Romania
Dennis Man who is on for Romania wins a corner, they are pushing for the winner! Ukraine fans will be praying for another goal in this match.
The corner ultimately comes to nothing but Belgium win a corner in the other match as De Bruyne bursts through midfield and finds Lukaku who tries to pull the ball back only for Ukraine to put the ball out of play.
Belgium make a change
Jeremy Doku comes off for Johan Bakayoko.
Both teams are still pushing for a winner in the other match but at one point do they take the foot off the gas and settle for the draw rather than take a risk?
Ukraine fans have sensed the peril they are in and upped the noise.
Dovbyk has a shot from an acute angle but it goes into the side netting.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Jeremy Doku has been a huge threat on the left but his final ball is letting him down, as again shown as he gets past a defender and has a simple pass on offer to Romelu Lukaku but fails to find his man.
They are playing themselves into a very tough last-16 clash with France as things stand.
Not long after Carrasco has a thunderous effort which bounces off a Ukrainian player.
De Bruyne tries to find Doku but Ukraine break clear only for Dovbyk to fail to get past Faes.
End-to-end stuff!
MATT BARLOW: Ukraine pushing forward
Matt Barlow at the MHPArena in Stuttgart;
With the other game level and Ukraine going out in fourth they have pushed forward in the last few minutes.
Immediately creating more inviting spaces for the Belgians.
De Bruyne picks the pass to Lukaku and forces a save as a direct consequence of Ukraine offering a little more adventure. Then the Carrasco run and shot, similar.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Great recovery from Ukraine's Tymchyk.
At one end Ukraine lose the ball with Onana passing the ball to Lukaku who spins and finds Carrasco who bursts through.
Carrasco takes too much time which allows Tymchyk to get in the way and force the Belgian player to take a shot which goes straight at Trubin.
Tymchyk is limping after a great piece of defending.
Water is splashing off the surface of the pitch in the Slovakia vs Romania game, it looks very slippy and players will need to keep their composure - they are both through at the moment but plenty of time for that to still change.
Chance for Lukaku!
Romelu Lukaku forces a save from Trubin.
De Bruyne finds the striker who is desperate to work an opportunity after a quiet game so far and it's a tame effort at the Ukrainian goalkeeper.
In the other game Slovakia have a big chance of their own with Haraslin sending a shot just wide.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Jeremy Doku gets in behind and plays in a dangerous ball but he needs to aim it for Romelu Lukaku, but instead plays it in front of the striker.
Zinchenko comes on for Belgium in place of Mykolenko while Sorescu replaces Coman in the other game for Romania.
Sorescu will play on the left-wing for the nation that are currently topping this group.
Injury concern for Ukraine
Good turn of pace from Doku as he tries to get away from Tymchyk.
The ball is played to the other side of the pitch and Castagne wins a corner.
Concern for Ukraine as Mykolenko appears uneasy, he only came in today after injury issues.
After the corner comes to nothing, Mykolenko drops to the ground, hopefully not a recurrent of his ankle ligament issue. Zinchenko is getting ready to come on.
Slovakia 1-1 Romania
Chance for Slovakia as a sliced clearance from a Romanian defender forces keeper Florin Nita to come out and punch.
Nita is very unhappy with his defence and is making his feelings clear.
Slovakia look closest to scoring at the start of this second-half and Haraslin forces a save out of Nita.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Mail Sport's Matt Barlow reports there were warnings from the PA at the Ukraine vs Belgium game asking fans not to use laser pens after the incidents with De Bruyne in that opening half.
Some good work from Belgium with some nice passing outside the Ukraine box ends with Doku giving away a foul for standing on the foot of Shaparenko.
Belgium will want to see more from Doku
Not been the best game so far for Jeremy Doku whose decision-making was questionable to say the least during the first-half.
Alan Shearer and Jose Fonte have both said that the Man City star has been 'anonymous' during the BBC's half-time coverage, with the former striker also having similar criticism for Arsenal's Leandro Trossard.
Huge chance for Ukraine!
Ukraine have a massive chance as Shaparenko finds Yaremchuk who has the opportunity to hit the ball first time but he instead tries to cross the ball through to Dovbyk but it's too powerful for his team-mate and the chance is gone.
Meanwhile there's a yellow card for Faes for a late foul on Yaremchuk.
Belgium are getting outnumbered in midfield.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Big boos from the Ukraine fans who feel like they should have been awarded a foul but Belgium play on.
There is then a foul on Onana which forces Taylor to blow the whistle.
Painful one for Sudakov going from the replays as Onana accidently stood on his foot before he was then fouled.
Incredible atmosphere in Stuttgart for the game with Ukraine fans making huge noise and Belgium supporters not far behind them.
Goal:Slovakia 1-1 Romania (Marin 37)
What a thumping penalty by Marin who sends the keeper the wrong way and powers the ball into the top corner to pull Romania level.
Even if Dubravka went the right way, he didn't stand a chance.
Absolute nerves of steele by Marin and we are back to all four sides level on four points as things stand which would mean Ukraine miss out.
De Bruyne annoyed with fans
Belgium have a chance here to either whip in a dangerous ball or take a shot as they have a free-kick in a dangerous position.
Only De Bruyne standing over the ball which when you hold his passing ability why would anybody else take it.
He has some words with Anthony Taylor and points to the crowd and it is because he has a laser being pointed at his face.
The Man City star then whips a free-kick which nearly catches Trubin out but goes just wide.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Poor effort by Sudakov!
Ukraine break on the counter attack with one pass anbd Dovbyk has so much time to do something with it. Whether he shoots or passes to Yaremchuk, but instead he passes to Sudakov who clearly didn't expect the pass given how far he blasted the ball over the bar.
Goal:Slovakia 1-0 Romania (Ondrej Duda 23)
Slovakia score the first goal of the day and it is as simple as you like!
A dangerous ball is whipped into the box and Duda is left with acres of space and he heads it down into the corner out of reach for Romanian goalkeeper Nita.
They move top of the group as things stand
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Yaremchuk has acres of space outside the box and he takes his chance but it goes straight at Casteel who palms the ball down to the ground before collecting it.
Belgium then lose the ball after some miscommunication and Dovbyk shoots from outside the box and it is well wide of the post.
Over in the other game Slovakia come so close to opening the scoring as a free-kick is curled for the far post and bounces agonisingly wide.
Captain Milian Skriniar was inches from getting a foot onto the ball.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
Belgium appeal for a penalty as two players go down in the box along with a Ukrainian player though referee Anthony Taylor waves on and doesn't believe there was any foul.
Meanwhile Kevin De Bruyne almost finds Youri Tielemans after the ball was chested down to him by Romelu Lukaku but Ukraine are making it awkward and making it difficult for Belgium to break them down.
Ukraine fans show off banner amid war with Russia
Matt Barlow at the MHPArena in Stuttgart;
Ukraine fans have unfurled banners behind Trubin’s goal that says ‘Peace has a Price’ and “thousands of football fans have been killed in the war since February 2022”.
Very emotional… could be their last game at the tournament.
Belgian fans applauded right the way through the Ukrainian anthem.
Anthony Taylor the man in the middle for Belgium vs Ukraine
The Romanian and Slovakian players gather in a huddle each side of the pitch as they are about to kick-off.
Meanwhile the Ukraine players are all draped in their national flag for their national anthem and as they greet the opposing team.
It is an English officiating team for the Belgium vs Ukraine match, with Anthony Taylor the man in the middle.
Romania looking to break 24-year barren run
Romania will be looking to reach the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time since Euro 2000.
On that occasion Ioan Ganea broke English hearts from the penalty spot in the 89th minute after Phil Neville gave away the spot-kick.
A draw would be good enough for them to qualify for the last-16 this time around which would be a massive achievement.
Some England news
Phil Foden has left England’s Euro 2024 camp to return home for the birth of his child.
It is understood the attacker’s partner is giving birth to their third baby and Foden is travelling back to the UK to be with his family before heading back to Germany.
The Football Association have not confirmed the reasons for Foden heading back to England mid-tournament.

Mudryk injured
Mykhailo Mudryk will be gutted to miss his country's pivotal match against Belgium.
The Chelsea player missed training yesterday and will be a big miss for Ukraine.
There was some confusion as he was listed as one of Ukraine's substitutes on their XI account but the official Uefa match sheet confirms he is not in the squad and will not play any part in their attempts to reach the last-16.
The most open group in Euros history?
It is the first time in European Championship history that all four teams have been on three points with one game left.
Every side in this group could still finish top, or bottom.
Prepare for a lot of predicted tables, permutations - and high and potential late drama all the way until the final whistle.
Atmosphere building ahead of both clashes
It is very rare at the European Championship where all four teams in a group have a real sense of optimism going into their final game.
Lot of smiles and positive energy from all four sets of supporters ahead of kick-off in 40 minutes or so, but there will be heartbreak for atleast one nation in over two hours.
But there is a strong chance as things stand that atleast three teams will make it out of this group and depending on results in Group F, England could be playing against one of these sides on Sunday.
TEAM NEWS: Belgium vs Ukraine
Well the big news is that Chelsea striker Mykhailo Mudryk is not in the squad while Arsenal's Oleksandr Zinchenko also drops to the bench for Ukraine.
Everton left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko has recovered from an ankle injury and comes in for Zinchenko.
For Belgium, another Gunner Leandro Trossard returns as he replaces Dodi Lukebakio.
Why England will be watching Group E conclude
The England camp will likely have an eye on the final matches in Group E.
As winners of Group C, the Three Lions are set to face one of the best third placed teams.
The likliest option is the Netherlands, but another possibility will be the third place finisher in Group E.
Mail Sport has broken down England's potential last-16 opponents.
Good afternoon!
Hello and welcome to Mail Sport's live blog from the final round of matches in Group E.
Afternoon last night's snooze fest which saw England play out one of two goalless draws in Group C to top the group, entertainment should be guaranteed here.
