Kieran Trippier is backing Eddie Howe to overcome his Champions League inexperience and stay at Newcastle long term to take them to the next level.
Trippier, who also played for Howe when at Burnley in the Championship a decade ago, has played in Europe’s premier competition for Tottenham and Atletico Madrid.
‘The gaffer could be here for the long term, for certain,’ said Tripper. ‘He’s worked wonders and the boys love him. He’s an incredible man-manager. He has worked hard: Bournemouth, Burnley and back to Bournemouth. He’s had time out to reflect.
‘I spent some good time with him in Madrid when he was there while watching different clubs around Europe and how they work. He has taken this chance with both hands and deserves a lot of credit.’
St James’ Park will be a cauldron on Sunday against Southampton with the prize so close.
