Want to get away from it all? Remote fisherman's cottage in 'Britain's only desert' could be yours for £875,000

A remote fisherman's cottage in what is said to be Britain's only desert is on sale, ideal for an introvert who wants to live 'in a Wes Anderson movie'.

The brightly-coloured detached bungalow is surrounded by nothing but sand, sea and stones and is being sold for £875,000 by Wards estate agents.

Located in Dungeness, a headland on the coast of Kent, the area is formed largely of a shingle beach.

It is a 'hidden gem' loved by celebrities, from musician Ed Sheeran to comedian Micky Flanagan. 

The 'authentic fisherman's cottage' was previously used as an Airbnb holiday home, and comes with an artist's studio and a 'large shingle garden'.

The bungalow comes with a view of the old steam train railway route serving Romney Marsh with views of the English Channel.

It boasts three bedrooms, two bathrooms and quirky interiors.

It was previously owned by artist Helen Gillilan, and since being listed the property has attracted a lot of attention online.

'Dungeness is a weird place,' one user said.

'It felt like an eerie ghost town when I visited. There's no way I'd pay anything close to that price!'

Another person said: 'Love Dungeness. This looks like you'd be living inside a Wes Anderson movie!'

'That's a yes from me,' added another user.

'£875k for a house that will probably be inundated by 2075,' commented someone else.

Another person added: 'I never would've expected Dungeness to be that expensive.

'It's an interesting place for a day trip but it looks like a bleak place to live.'

Dungeness is home to a lighthouse, a few pubs and a power station. 

The desolate area is a tourist hotspot, attracting around a million holidaymakers a year.

It's also been home to many famous residents, such as Derek Jarman, who died in 1994.

The landscape featured on the cover of Pink Floyd's album A Collection of Great Dance Songs, released in 1981.
