Time to be royal! Watch bearing the Queen's cypher and coat of arms that was one of 50 made for Palace staff to mark monarch's Platinum Jubilee is set to fetch up to £5,000 at auction

A limited edition watch that was one of 50 given to members of the royal household to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee could sell for up to £5,000.

The luxury Bremont Supermarine S300 timepiece boasts the royal coat of arms on its face and the cypher of Queen Elizabeth II on the reverse.

It was part of a special commission made by the Royal Mews - the Palace stables - for a select group of staff to celebrate the Queen's 70-year reign in 2022.

The watch is being sold by an anonymous seller via Mayfair-based auctioneers Noonans and features an estimate of between £3,000 and £5,000.

In a sign of the added value the royal connection brings, the S300 model is available new for £3,295 from Bremont's website.

Historian Christopher Wilson told MailOnline that it was rare for the Palace to produce such a gift for members of staff - but was also surprised by the watch's appearance.

He said: 'This is a highly desirable object which royal collectors will rush to snap up, and I anticipate it selling far in excess of its estimate.

'That this personal gift was created so recently does raise questions as to why it's being sold off now. Was the recipient too embarrassed to wear it?

'It's rare for a personal memento of this kind to be quite so blatant, with the royal standard so garishly displayed and the Queen's cypher so prominent.'

He added: 'I imagine that senior courtiers would look down their noses at something quite so macho - their preference would be for a slim gold watch, or perhaps an engraved piece of silver.'

The watch is made from stainless steel and features a rubber strap. The buyer will also receive a leather pouch and a warranty card.

The dial is said to be in good condition, whilst the the case has 'minor scuffs' but is otherwise unblemished.

The watch is due to be sold on June 11. It is tipped to sell for between £3,000 and £5,000

Joanne Lewis, Watch Specialist at Noonans said: 'This Bremont Supermarine S300 watch was part of a special commission made by The Royal Mews, a division of the Royal Household, to mark the occasion of Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

'The limited production run of 50 pieces were only available to those working for The Royal Household. The dial displays the Royal Coat of Arms and the case back depicts the Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II.'

The watch will go on sale on June 11.

It is unclear if the seller is still a member of Palace staff.

The late Queen's closest aides included her loyal page Paul Whybrew, who was known as 'Tall Paul'. He worked for Her Late Majesty for 44 years.

Mr Whybrew featured alongside the Queen and Daniel Craig in the James Bond sketch that was filmed for the 2021 Olympics.

The Queen's Private Secretary was Sir Edward Young, who was in his position from 2017 until Her Majesty's death. He joined the Royal Household in 2004.
