As Doctor Who, he’s become a master at materialising in unexpected places.
And actor Peter Capaldi certainly caught teenager Daniel Norton by surprise last week – when he suddenly appeared beside his hospital bed at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London.
Capaldi, 57, decided to make the unannounced call on Daniel when he read on social media that the ardent Time Lord fan had been forced to cancel a visit to London’s Doctor Who Festival after being rushed to hospital in London.

In Doctor Who character and costume, Capaldi walked up to Daniel’s bed and calmly declared: ‘I understand you need a Doctor.’
Once Daniel, 14, had recovered from the shock, the pair spent two hours chatting.
‘I could not believe it,’ Daniel said. ‘We had a lot to talk about.’

Daniel suffers from the genetic disorder Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which affects the body’s connective tissue.
He suffers from heart trouble and intestinal failure which means he cannot eat and has to be constantly connected to a drip.
He was rushed to hospital after his condition flared up.
Daniel’s mother, Tracey, said: ‘I was so sorry for him when he couldn’t go to the festival – he was in tears. But you should have seen his face when Peter walked in. I cried with joy.’
