Heavy rain showers drench the UK as Henley is soaked and Wimbledon receives downpour - with THUNDER heard rumbling in from the south

Brits are enduring a weekend washout as heavy rain is forecast again for this afternoon, affecting Henley Royal Regatta, Wimbledon and the Grand Prix.

Thunder has been heard rumbling in from the south, as temperatures across the UK remain below average for the time of year, reaching highs of 18 to 19C.

The Met Office has told eventgoers that 'it's probably worth having an umbrella on hand' to dodge the showers, with sunny spells expected in-between.

Downpours of heavy rain may cause some disruption to travel and localised flooding is expected in some areas.

Meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey said: 'The rest of Sunday is certainty looking like a day of dodging showers but also chasing rainbows.

'Showers have been quite quickly pushing into western areas first thing this morning and are very swiftly moving their way eastwards and will quite widely develop across many areas of the uk during the rest of Sunday.

'Some of them could be on the sharp side with hail and thunder. In between the showers will be some decent sunny spells and in that sunshine with light winds it will feel relatively pleasant with temperatures around 17 to 19C.

'Showers are still rumbling on a touch as we head until this evening so if you're at Wimbledon, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone or even in your local park its probably worth having your umbrella to hand in case one passes you'.

Showers are expected to fade into the evening on Sunday, with temperatures dropping to 9C in towns and cities or 3C in rural areas.

Henley guests on the River Thames were spotted in waterproof ponchos and umbrellas as they scrabbled to find places to let their hoods down.

Racegoers got soaked in the tumultuous British summer weather today. Many were making makeshift parasols out of their blazers, as others huddled together to hide from the rain.

However, earlier today the skies looked to be more forgiving, giving guests a chance to show off their stylings.

Two women were spotted wearing matching floral dresses - one pink one blue - with cream blazers.

Another was spotted in a striking blue floral frock, with a striped jacket and ornate floral headpiece.

It was a similar situation for guests at Wimbledon today as they sat huddled under their umbrellas and waited patiently for the start of play. Scattered showers have plagued the tournament ever since it began last week.
