Atherton, Kennedy Highway Crash: Woman accused of deliberately trying to kill a man and four children after she allegedly flipped an SUV and ploughed into a roadsign in horror smash

A woman accused of deliberately crashing a car and trying to kill the man and four children inside will face court.

The 32-year-old allegedly flipped the Nissan X-trail she was driving near Atherton, on the Kennedy Highway in far north Queensland, on June 26.

Police will allege that she 'deliberately travelled off the road and crashed into a sign' in the early hours of the morning, with a 43-year-old man and four children aged between three months and nine years in the car.

They will further allege that one child was in the boot and not properly restrained at the time.

According to police, the group left the scene with no serious injuries.

Queensland Police said they were made aware of the abandoned car several hours later after someone spotted it on the side of the road in daylight.

Emergency services were called to a property in Evelyn the following day and minor injuries to the baby and a two-year-old girl were reported.

Police will allege the woman assaulted the two children, who were transported to Cairns Hospital.

The woman was charged with five counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and one count each of disqualified driving, and driving with an unrestrained passenger.

The woman was expected to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Police suggest that both incidents were linked to domestic violence and are urging anyone with information which may assist investigators to come forward.
