Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey got drenched falling off an aquatic obstacle course in his latest slapstick photo-op.

Sir Ed attempted a floating assault course at Spot-On-Wake in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, while on the General Election campaign trail this morning, as his party set their sites on gains in 'true blue' Tory seats.

This is just the latest in a string of eye-catching stunts which the politician has used to gain traction for his campaign, which recently saw him visit Thorpe Park.

In footage, Sir Ed can be seen donning a wetsuit, life jacket and fluorescent hard hat as he helplessly falls from a tightrope into the chilly water beneath.

Henley-in-Arden falls within the Stratford-on-Avon constituency, where former Tory Chancellor Nadim Zahawi currently has a majority of nearly 20,000.

The Lib Dem leader attempted a range of low ropes-style obstacles on his visit to the West Midlands seat, most of which he failed in spectacular fashion.

It was particularly reminiscent of his attempt at paddleboarding in Windermere a fortnight ago, when he sought to draw attention to the polluted state of Britain's waters.

On May 30, two days later, he hurtled himself down a giant slip 'n slide in an inflatable ring in From, Somerset, to promote the party's child mental health policies.

He has also been pictured with his legs spread wide open as he rode a bike during a visit to Knighton in Wales, and joined care home residents in a DrumFit class at Abbotswood Court Care Village in Romsey, Hampshire.

The Lib Dem leader was also pictured today roasting marshmallows while visiting Willow Forest School of the Elm Nursery in Guilford.

Sir Ed was also snapped sawing up logs for the fire and then peeping through a hole in a piece of cut-up wood as though it was a telescope.

He was also seen fist-bumping the students and then looking extremely satisfied as he munched on his toasted treat by the campfire.

Connecting all these bizarre photo-opportunities, is the hope for the Lib Dems that they will take those areas from the Tories at July 4's general election.

On Monday, Sir Ed launched his party's manifesto which he will hope can secure the necessary votes to make gains in the 'Blue Wall'.

The plans opened the door to US-style cannabis shops in Britain, with an attempt to tackle the spread of high-strength 'skunk' via criminal gangs by allowing 'licensed retailers' to sell less-potent weed to over-18s.

Sir Ed also admitted the party's 'long-term' goal was returning the UK to 'the heart of Europe' as he unveiled a programme of proposals that focusses on health and social care closer to home.

Among the 116-page proposal, briefly mentioned were removing the requirement for medical reports before changing gender.

Titled 'For A Fair Deal', the manifesto also included a £9.4 billion capital gains tax raid on banks and the super-rich to help fund free care in England.

But buried four pages from the end of the document was a pledge to start work on rejoining the EU Single Market - which includes freedom of movement for EU citizens.

However, cutting through far more than any of the actual policies, has been Sir Ed's novel approach to campaigning, billed by Lib Dem frontbencher Munira Wilson as an 'adrenaline-fuelled extreme sports tour of the UK'.

The party's leader has become the object of countless memes on social media and became the unlikely new obsession of millennials and Gen Z online.

People who admit they weren't initially planning to vote for the Lib Dems have been won over by the 58-year-old father-of-two.

'Ed Davey is making it very hard not to like him right now,' one wrote on X, formerly Twitter. 'BBW, hugging a dog, surfing, waterslides, giant Jenga and a spot of gardening... he might be the most in touch with the public MP I've ever seen.'

Social media edits have also poked fun at the stunts, joking that the Lib Dem leader is now likely to arrive for press conferences with a gymnastics set, rollerblades or a complicated martial arts manoeuvre.

Betting company Ladbrokes even set up a betting pool for what activities Ed Davey is likely to take part in before the General Election on July 4 - with options including riding a bucking bronco, bungee jumping or being fired out of a cannon.
