Charles Spencer breaks his silence as Lady Amelia's wedding photographs are revealed - after he did not attend the nuptials in South Africa

Charles Spencer has broken his silence after his daughter Lady Amelia's wedding photographs were revealed.

Princess Diana's niece, 30, and her fiancé Greg Mallett, 30, tied the knot last Tuesday at the exclusive South African venue La Cotte Farm, which offers a 'unique winelands experience'.

Photographs of the event were shared in Hello! magazine this week, with the bride dressed in a stunning lace Versace gown as she walked down the aisle to her personal trainer beau. 

However one guest was notably absent from the event - Amelia's father, Earl Spencer.

After the photographs were revealed by the magazine, Charles posted on Twitter yesterday, sharing a snap of a bird and writing: 'Buzzard watching me closely in Althorp’s garden.'

As his daughter's wedding photographs were revealed, Charles posted a photograph of a buzzard at his Althorp estate 

Rather than commenting on his daughter's wedding, he shared the snap of the bird of prey in Althorp's garden

He went on to share another snap this morning from Althorp, writing: 'March silhouette.'

Despite frequently posting on social media this week throughout the celebrations, Charles has yet to make public comment about his daughter's wedding.  

Lady Amelia and her sister Lady Eliza shared a number of snaps as they kicked off wedding celebrations in Cape Town.

The bride-to-be looked suitably stylish in a silk halterneck white gown while her partner of 11 years was smart in a white shirt and blue suit trousers. 

The happy couple posed for photos next to the pool and shared images of themselves exchanging kisses and loving looks on Instagram. 

Posting a photo of his future wife with her arms wrapped around him, Greg gushed to his 8,400 followers: 'You'll never not make me laugh. And I will never stop looking at you in awe.'

The groom then finished off his loving post with a single red love heart emoji and tagged Amelia - who then re-shared it with her 48,400 followers.

Wedding guest Jacinta Spencer - who is a make-up artist friend and not a direct relation - also posted a photo of Lady Amelia posing on the terrace as the sun set behind her.

She wrote: 'The most beautiful pre-wedding reception for you. I love you with all my heart.' 

But while Amelia's twin sister Eliza featured in pictures on social media, their father Earl Spencer, 58, did not appear in any of the shots.

Last Tuesday, the couple tied the knot in spectacular fashion at La Cotte Farm, near Cape Town. 

While there are no prices available online for hiring out the venue, prices to stay in the main villa on the farm cost from £950 per night in the low season.

The farm, which is a stone's throw from Franschhoek, dates back to 1698.

It was among the first of 11 Huguenot Farms granted to French immigrants who fled their native country during the 17th century. 

The accommodation houses 102 guests and offers in-house catering, bar facilities and a venue manager who oversees the running of events.

Meanwhile, there are also staff who will assist with set-up and direct contact with trusted décor suppliers and other vendors. 

Lady Amelia and Greg have previously attended a number of weddings at the venue for other friends and loved ones. 

On Wednesday, in his first post after the wedding, Earl Spencer tweeted a photograph of Althorp, writing: 'Early morning March light, at Althorp’s Round Oval lake.'

He then shared a video showing some of the birds there, tweeting: 'Duck, geese, swans - and, in the distance, coots and moorhens. Early morning life on the lake, at ⁦@AlthorpHouse.'

After Lady Amelia wed, she and her new husband celebrated with friends and family at the stunning farm, with guests sharing snaps of them on social media.

In one photo, Amelia can be seen wearing a halterneck white sequin gown, sweeping her blonde locks into a ponytail to create a dramatic scooped back.

Her new husband appeared to be beaming in another photograph, donning a smart black suit with an open-neck shirt and a pair of cool white trainers for the occasion.

Hairdresser Jack Merrick-Thirlway shared a number of snaps  on Instagram as he posed with the couple and their loved ones. 

Posting a photograph with Amelia, he called her 'the most beautiful bride'.

Meanwhile, sharing a picture of Greg, he wrote: 'I mean, just look at him!'

Another photograph showed Amelia's twin sister Lady Eliza, who was dressed in an elegant strapless blue dress. 

Femail has approached Charles Spencer for comment. 

It's not the first wedding of a child that Earl Spencer has missed. 

Princess Diana's younger brother did not attend his eldest daughter Lady Kitty's wedding to retail millionaire Michael Lewis in July 2021 - prompting rumours all was not well between the father-of-seven and his daughters from his first marriage. 

Lady Kitty - who is 32 years younger than her husband - was walked down the aisle by her brother Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp, 29, and half brother Samuel Aitken, whose father is businessman Jonathan Aitken.

A source told MailOnline at the time: 'Kitty and Charles were very close when she was growing up, but their relationship has cooled and been more distant since his marriage to his third wife, Karen, in 2011.

'Charles recently suffered an injury and perhaps that will be the reason for him not travelling, but it is just easier for everyone that he is not there.

'The four children are all close to their mother, Victoria, and get on well with their step-siblings, and their Spencer aunts and have forged their own relationships with one another without needing Charles to bind them together.' 

Although Lady Amelia's mother Victoria Aitken did not feature in photos from the welcome party, she was included on the guest list for Lady Kitty's wedding in 2021 and iis thought to have attended her second daughter's nuptials.

Charles was married to Victoria from 1989 until 1997. The couple moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where Kitty and her siblings Lady Eliza, Lady Amelia and Louis were brought up away from the glare of public attention.

Princess Diana's death occurred while their divorce case was in progress; shortly after their split was finalised, Earl Spencer moved back to the UK.

Following their separation, Earl Spencer went on to marry Caroline Freud in 2001 before they divorced in 2007 and he tied the knot with entrepreneur Karen Spencer in 2011.

In July 2020, Lady Amelia became engaged to long-term boyfriend Greg following a romantic proposal in South Africa.

The society beauty, who is the cousin of Princes William and Harry, met her beau while they were both studying at the University of Cape Town.

The couple were together for 11 years before Greg, 32, popped the question at the exclusive Clouds Wine & Guest Estate in Stellenbosch.

In 2021, the couple relocated from South Africa to London shortly after Amelia's big sister Kitty's lavish wedding in Rome - with celebrations being spread over four days.
