Philip S. Mick Mahoney OBITUARY

Philip Sheridan “Mick” Mahoney, a remarkable individual with a restless spirit, passed away from natural causes on June 3, 2024. He left peacefully, surrounded by his family and six beloved dogs. His life was long and eventful, marked by significant achievements and diverse experiences. During the Korean War, Mick earned the Silver Star for gallantry in action and the Purple Heart for the wounds he sustained. His journey included various high points, such as being a Golden Gloves boxer, cement plant chemist, railroad engineer, aircraft pilot, and heavy machinery operator. Mick’s career trajectory included multiple stops throughout the Rocky Mountains and Alaska and repeatedly took unexpected turns-owning multiple sheep ranches; being the City Manager in both Aspen and Steamboat Springs, Colorado; partnering in modular home construction and heavy lift helicopter companies; earning a PhD in economics; and pursuing an academic career in finance. Mick embarked on his final career in 1993, founding One-Way Disposal Services, an active and thriving business currently employing thirty individuals. Mick loved animals and was known to keep dogs, horses, pigs, and even raccoons around his home. Mick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carolann; his four children, Dugan (Allison), Donovan (Carolyn), Danny (Julie), and Brendan (Dash), and two stepsons Jeremy (Linda Ruth) and Erich (Vera); his daughter Shannon preceded him in death. Additionally, he leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mick delighted in his extensive friendships, both old and new. A celebration of Mick’s life will take place on a date and location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made in his honor to an animal related charity. May Mick’s legacy continue to inspire those who knew him.
