Marc Walter Weaver OBITUARY

Marc Walter Weaver, fourth generation Boulderite and beloved musician, passed from the earthly realm of his own terms on May 28, 2024. He had exhausted available remedies for his chronic back and hip pain, and which had become unbearable due to the restrictions on legal access to pain medications. He was born in Denver, Colorado on September 22, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Hospital to Wayne Weaver of Boulder and Pauline (Moore) Weaver of East Chicago, Indiana. He grew up in Wheat Ridge and graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1969, with an emphasis in math and science. Marc attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, starting in the engineering school, but graduating in 1974 with an Elementary Education degree. He substituted in the Denver/Boulder area for three years, enjoying a three-month assignment at Phillips Elementary in the Park Hill area of Denver. The wonderful aspect of the school was that it achieved racial balance without the bussing that was prevalent at the time. He then used his familiarity with audio-visual equipment to become an employee with Davis Audio-Visual where he worked for ten years. His skills landed him a position with US WEST Advanced Technology, which eventually built a state-of-the-art research facility in Boulder. With assistance from US WEST, he acquired a Master’s of Telecommunications from the University of Denver in 1991. He became a test engineer and worked on new technologies for telephone and cable TV. After corporate splits and mergers he wound up at Comcast. After their research projects headquarters moved to Philadelphia, he became a test engineer with CableLabs in Louisville. He enjoyed his employment there until his retirement in 2013. He was an avid runner until 2010, competing in many marathons, including the 100 and 101st Boston Marathons, and many ultra-marathons. Marc enjoyed an interest in all things related to the Brazilian culture. He participated in both dance and musical activities with Samba Colorado, Viva Brazil, Bateria Alegria, Grupo Chegando La, and Boulder Samba School. He was fortunate to take five trips to Brazil to deepen his understanding of that joyful culture, and he regularly attended Brazil Camp in Cazadero, California. He found lasting sobriety in 2007. He observed the AA suggestion to spread the word of recovery by meeting with inmates at the Boulder County Jail for more than eleven years. While he could, he volunteered at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless for more than seven years. He is survived by his siblings: Marcia Weaver (Michael Chapko) of Seattle, WA; Martin Weaver (Jennifer Pasanen) of Brooklyn, NY; Megan Tooker (John) of Bellefonte, PA; Matthew Weaver of Lewiston, ME; Meredith Weaver (Paul Piquado) of Geneva, Switzerland. Among his siblings he has ten beloved nephews and nieces. Marc lived a long, joyful, and productive life. He was grateful for the love and support of his many communities. Recognizing the shock and grief that his passing may cause, his family hopes all who knew him will respect his decision without pity or stigma. His ashes will be interred at Columbia Cemetery along with three different sets of great- and great-great grandparents, including one who arrived in Boulder Valley in 1859. A memorial celebration of Marc’s life will be held the weekend of August 10 – 11. For further information contact Marc.Loves.Samba@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, Marc requests donations be made to the Boulder Samba School.
