Elsie Julia Chavez OBITUARY

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elsie Julia Chavez, who left us peacefully surrounded by her family on June 16, 2024. Born on February 7, 1945, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, Elsie’s vibrant spirit and boundless generosity touched many throughout her 79 years of life. Elsie was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her beloved children, Loretta, Arthur (Laurie) and Teddy; her cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Monica), Ashley (Nick), Timothy (Caryn), Tyson (Kay), Trevor (Hannah), Christopher (Jenn), Joe (Danielle), Vicki, and Samantha (Cody); and 13 precious great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Roman and Flora Montano, parents Joe Abel and Rachel Chavez, her beloved husband of 55 years, Bennie, and her daughter in law, Teri. Elsie’s memory will be cherished by her siblings: Lee Runner, Carmen Aranda, Vanessa Martinez, Toni Vigil, Richard Chavez, and Allen Chavez. She was predeceased by her sisters Rosie Martinez and Donna Vargas. Elsie was a caring auntie to numerous nieces and nephews and held a special place in the hearts of her numerous cousins, who will miss her dearly. Elsie’s life was one of devotion-devotion to her family and her work, as she embarked on an early career that saw her touch many lives as a Teacher’s Aide at Boulder Valley School District. She later transitioned to a role as a Printing Machine Operator at Storage Technology, where she remained until her well-deserved retirement. As the true family Matriarch, Elsie was the heart and soul of family gatherings. She enjoyed planning and attending family parties and events, ensuring that each occasion was filled with fun and laughter. Her home was a hub of warmth, where she loved to work and welcome all who entered. Elsie’s Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life’s many challenges and triumphs with grace and resilience. Elsie was often described as funny, generous, and faith filled. Her sense of humor was a gift that she shared freely, bringing smiles and laughter to even the most solemn of moments. Her generosity knew no bounds, as she gave not only material gifts but also her time, energy, and love without hesitation. Her deep faith was an inspiration, a testament to her belief in the goodness of people and the world. Elsie Julia Chavez’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and the powerful strength that comes from a life well-lived. Her matriarchal spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Elsie Chavez was indeed such a life. Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, 5:30-6:30 PM at St. Louis Catholic Church, 902 Grant Ave., Louisville, CO.
