David Swatson Hill OBITUARY

David Swatson Hill, 84, of Longmont, Colorado passed away quietly and at peace on June 30, 2024, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born in Chicago, IL in 1940 to Swatson Hill and Constance Casmer. David graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1970. He went on to private practice in Minneapolis from 1970-1974. He began his teaching career as a professor of law at Gonzaga University College of Law from 1974-75 and then Boston College Law school from 1975-77. David began teaching at the University of Colorado School of Law in 1977 as the first professor of color in the 132-year history of CU law. He retired Professor of Law Emeritus in 2007. Throughout his career, David was actively involved with the Council on Legal Educational Opportunity (“CLEO”), the Law School Admissions Counsel, the Sam Carey Bar Association, and the Boulder Housing Authority. David enjoyed riding motorcycles with his wife Jane, friends and family, playing golf and softball, travelling for both work and pleasure. He always voted Democratic and never hesitated to share his thoughts on civil rights, history, politics, and pretty much anything under the sun with anyone who enjoyed a good debate. And, really, he just started good trouble with everybody. David was preceded in death by his father, mother, and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Jane Hill (ne Yost), son Michael Edden Hill (Malika), daughter Jennifer Hill, and brother Joseph Casmer (Diana). In accordance with David’s wishes, there will be no service or memorial. Donations can be made to the University of Nebraska College of Law. Condolences online at MetcalfFuneralServices.com
