Carter Lake Classic to raise funds for Phinney foundation

The Carter Lake Classic will be held on May 19 to benefit the Davis Phinney Foundation at a location familiar to Phinney’s fans.

The Boulder-raised cyclist, one of the best in American history, had some of the biggest moments of his career at North Boulder Park, where the Coors Classic finished. The Carter Lake ride will begin and end at the park this year. The event will begin with a group start at 7:30 a.m.

The 65-mile ride is open to the first 50 riders, and the entry fee is $45. The money will go to help the foundation, which works to find and a cure for Parkinson’s disease and help those afflicted with it.

Equine therapy run

Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy is hosting the Deer Creek Challenge run on May 20 to help raise funds for the agency.

The challenge has distances of half marathon, 10K and 2.8 mile hike/run. All distances will be on trails.

Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy specializes in giving equine riding therapy to mentally and physically challenged individuals of all ages. The event begins at 9 a.m. at Deer Creek Canyon Park in Littleton.

Skate Park BBQ

Longmont Recreation Services will hold a skate park BBQ on May 12 from 11-2 p.m. at Sandstone Ranch.

The event will be an opportunity to give your feedback on topics such as cleanliness of park, skate park monitors, skaters vs. BMXers, equal access for all abilities and anything else you care to share with city officials. There will be free food.

Humane society walk

The Longmont Humane Society will host the Walk for Fun but Walk for a Reason at the 14th annual Walk for Animals on May 19.

Participation in the event is free if you register before May 14. All walk participants are asked to collect donations and seek matching gifts from their employers for the fundraiser. The money raised through donations from the Walk for Animals is critical to the operation of the Longmont Humane Society.

Pre-register by May 14 to receive a free continental breakfast and $5 discount on the official event T-shirt. Registration the day of the event is $5 and an event T-shirt may be purchased then for $25. Registration the day of the festival begins at 8:30 a.m. The three-mile Walk for Animals begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Boulder County Fairgrounds Picnic Shelter.

Skate Spring Fling

The Boulder Skate Team will host a skateboarding contest at the Boulder Skatepark on Saturday.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., and a helmet is required. There is a $10 entry fee. Divisions include groms (12-and-under), teens “A,” teens “B,” adult unsponsored and advanced/sponsored. There is a $100 cash prize, courtesy of Meta Skateboards, for the advanced/sponsored division.
