Two motorcyclists who endured severe injuries in a Mead crash on Saturday remain in critical condition Tuesday.

According to a release by Mead police, on Saturday, a motorcyclist riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson was traveling northbound on Colorado Boulevard when he attempted to pass a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek on the left.

When the Subaru driver slowed to take a left turn onto westbound Weld County Road 32, the 50-year-old motorcyclist, Donald Dutton, collided with the rear left tire. Denver resident Debbi Kempf, 58, was the passenger on the motorcycle.

Both occupants of the Harley-Davidson were ejected and endured severe injuries. Neither of them were wearing protective gear, according to the release.

Dutton, of Palmer Lake, was transported to Longs Peak Hospital before being airlifted to University of Colorado Anschutz while Kempf was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.

The Subaru driver, a 19-year-old woman, did not sustain injuries and was released from the scene, according to the release. No charges have been filed.

The Regional Forensic Crash Team is conducting the reconstruction of the incident and investigation.

Responding agencies included, Mountain View Fire Rescue, Frederick-Firestone Fire District, Weld County Sheriff’s Office and the Mead Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to contact Mead Police Department at at 720-652-4222 or email police@townofmead.org, according to the release.
