A Boulder man has been arrested in connection with two separate shootings in the city in the past week.

John Paul Gaudreau, 35, faces charges of two counts of attempted first-degree murder, a domestic violence enhancer, reckless endangerment and violation of a protection order. Additional charges are pending, according to police.

A man took himself to the hospital after a shooting near 28th Street and Mapleton Avenue just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Boulder police news release. The man said he was shot by an unknown man. However, police said they were able to identify a suspect.

Last week, police received a report that someone heard shots fired at approximately 9 p.m. Friday in the 1600 block of 28th Street. Police said they investigated the report but at the time found no victims and had limited leads, according to a social media post.

Through investigation, police said they connected the shooting on Wednesday with the shooting on Friday and found Gaudreau at his home in the 1700 block of Baseline Road.

Police also contacted a victim in Friday’s shooting who was shot in the shoulder but did not seek medical attention until Wednesday.

Multiple teams were called Wednesday to contact Gaudreau and take him into custody. At 11:15 a.m., he surrendered to officers and was arrested without incident. At least one firearm was found, according to police.

“Crimes such as these don’t happen often in our community. When they do, they generate fear and are extremely concerning to our agency, and we will take the perpetrators into custody as soon as possible,” Interim Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said in the release.

“Since Friday, our detectives have been diligently working to identify the individuals involved in that case. The successful arrest in these crimes is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Investigations and Patrol teams, and I am thankful that our tactical teams were able to safely take this suspect into custody without further injuries to anyone.”

Both cases remain under investigation.

The police ask that anyone with information contact Detective Scott Byars at ByarsS@bouldercolorado.gov or 303-441-1970 and reference case 24-6285.
