The Colorado Avalanche took one step Tuesday toward sorting out the depth chart at goaltender.
Trent Miner will return on a one-year contract, the club announced. Miner, 23, was a seventh-round pick by the Avs in 2019.
After two years spent mostly in the ECHL, Miner got his first real chance with the Colorado Eagles this year, compiling a .930 save percentage and a 9-6-1 record in 18 games. The Avs look locked in at the NHL level with Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen under contract, but is an unrestricted free agent and Arvid Holm has already signed a three-year deal with Rogle BK in the Swedish League.
That currently leaves Miner at No. 3 on the depth chart, but Colorado will likely add another goaltender or two during the offseason to compete with Miner for playing time with the Eagles and Utah Grizzlies. Annunen (23 games played), Prosvetov (21), Miner (18) and Holm (12) all spent time with the Eagles, while Miner and Holm both spent time with the Grizzlies as well.
