Nasal Surgery for Breathing

Nasal Reconstruction in Farmington & Hartford, CT

At Connecticut Facial Plastic Surgery, we understand the significant impact that nasal breathing issues can have on your quality of life. Dr. Seeley specializes in nasal reconstruction, providing comprehensive solutions to enhance both the function and appearance of the nose.

Understanding Nasal Breathing Surgery

Nasal breathing surgery is designed to correct defects and restore the function of the nose, often compromised due to various conditions.

Dr. Seeley employs a range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures to address these issues, enhancing both nasal function and appearance.

During the surgery, specific techniques are used depending on the patient’s unique needs:

  • Nasal Septal Reconstruction (Septoplasty): This procedure corrects a deviated septum, a common cause of breathing difficulties. By repositioning and straightening the nasal septum, the airway is cleared, allowing for better airflow.
  • Turbinate Reduction: Enlarged turbinates can obstruct airflow. In this procedure, excess tissue from the turbinates is removed or repositioned to improve breathing.
  • Rhinoplasty: While often associated with cosmetic improvements, rhinoplasty can also correct structural problems that impede breathing. Adjustments to the nasal bones and cartilage help in enhancing the nasal passages.
  • Nasal and Facial Reconstruction: Comprehensive reconstruction to restore form and function.
  • Septorhinoplasty: This combines the benefits of both septoplasty and rhinoplasty, addressing both functional and aesthetic concerns simultaneously.
  • Nasal Valve Repair: If the nasal valves (the narrowest part of the nasal airway) are weak or collapse, this procedure reinforces them to improve airflow.
  • Linear Repair: Addresses linear defects and scars on the nose.

Dr. Seeley tailors each procedure to the patient’s needs. This ensures the primary goal of improved nasal breathing is achieved while also considering the cosmetic outcome. The surgery involves making precise incisions, often inside the nose to reduce visible scarring, and carefully reshaping or repositioning tissues and structures.

Reasons for Nasal Breathing Surgery

Patients may require nasal surgery for various reasons, including:

  • Trauma: Injuries from accidents, sports, or falls can lead to nasal deformities that obstruct airflow.
  • Surgical Excision: Removal of tumors or other growths can create nasal defects that need reconstruction.
  • Birth Defects: Congenital conditions like cleft palate can affect nasal structure and function.
  • Infection: Severe infections can damage nasal tissues, necessitating reconstruction.
  • Animal and Human Bites: These can cause significant nasal injuries requiring surgical intervention.
  • Poor Results from Previous Rhinoplasty: Revision surgeries are sometimes necessary to correct breathing issues from prior procedures.

Who Is a Candidate for Nasal Breathing Surgery?

Individuals experiencing nasal obstruction, difficulty breathing, or are unhappy about their nose’s appearance usually consider nasal surgery. Ideal candidates are in good overall health, do not smoke, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes.

Patients should be committed to following post-operative recovery guidelines. These include avoiding strenuous activities, following prescribed medication regimens, and attending follow-up appointments.

Those suffering from chronic nasal congestion, recurrent sinus infections, or breathing difficulties impacting their quality of life can benefit from these procedures. Dr. Seeley conducts thorough evaluations to ensure personalized treatment plans addressing both functional and aesthetic concerns.

In September Dr. Seeley and his team preformed the balloon sinuplasty procedure on me, which has been successful! Even though I struggled a bit with the procedure, they were so gentle and kind throughout. Follow ups have been great and quick and the whole team is friendly and nice. I actually enjoy coming in to my appointments! Thank you Dr. Seeley and team!!

My experience going to see Dr. Brook Seeley and getting a procedure was honestly the best experience I’ve ever had! From his staff at the desk, to Kim the coordinator, all the way up to Dr. Seelwy himself, I had a great experience even though I was so nervous and not knowing what to expect. He was so beyond professional, kind, friendly, and took all the time in the world to explain everything step by step, answering each and every one of my questions, and not pushing me to get the procedure or any of that fluff that other doctors do. It was an amazing experience. Thank you Dr. Seeley.
