Juneteenth – celebration, reflection, uplifting

Listen Now

June 19, 2024, marks nearly 160 years since all enslaved people in the United States were set free in 1865 — two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation legally ending slavery. This week we talk about the meaning of the now federal holiday and hear how our community recognizes the day, which is also a time to reflect on the achievements of Black Americans.

This week’s guests include: Norman Harris, founder of the Juneteenth Music Festival in Denver’s Five Points; MiDian Holmes, founder of the Denver-based Epitome of Black Excellence & Partnership; and award-winning poet Dominique Christina.
