William Robert Lewis OBITUARY

William Robert Lewis, 72, of Harwinton, husband of Corrine (Carlson) Lewis, lost his battle with stomach cancer at his home, Saturday, June 29th, 2024. He was born July 20th, 1951 in Hartford, CT to the late Robert and Marjorie (King) Lewis. Affectionately known as Bill, Billy, or Siwel, he grew up in Burlington and was well loved by many. Bill served in the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He built his home in Harwinton, on land from his Father-in-law, Joseph Carlson. Bill had a passion for woodworking and was a self-employed carpenter for many years. When he wasn’t working, he could be found tinkering with an engine or playing baseball. He participated in some form or another most of his life and nothing gave him more joy than when his son, BJ, inherited his love of the game. Many warm summer evenings were spent at local baseball fields with his daughters in tow. In his later life, he was fortunate to find a new passion… grandchildren. He loved them all dearly, and became the quintessential proud and doting grampa. Bill always had a twinkle in his eye and a story ready to tell. These stories became longer and more animated as the years went by. Be at peace, Bill.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, William Lewis and his wife Heather of Exton, PA, Lora Lewis and her husband Scott Butcher of Harwinton, and Kara Lewis and her husband Tony Ortelle of Litchfield; his nine grandchildren, Molly, Tyler, Lily, Ella, Mya, Alice, Gregory, Kaylee, and Casey; his sister, Esther Scheidel, brother Robert, Sister-in-law Donna Dablain and her husband Charles, Brother-in-law Joe Carlson and his wife Jill; and five nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Hicks, brother, Paul, and brother-in-law, Tony “Goober” Scheidel.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harwinton Ambulance at 166 Burlington Road or Harwinton Volunteer Fire Dept. at 158 Burlington Road. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc., www.ahernfuneralhome.com.
