Walter J Knapp OBITUARY

Walter James Knapp of Palm Beach FL passed away on 07/01/2024. He was 93 years old. Walter was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Hartford CT until retiring to FL in 1992. He is survived by his sister Marjorie Knapp and brother Rev. Raymond Knapp of Boynton Beach FL, his beloved sons Keith Knapp of Baltic CT, Kyle Knapp of Jacksonville NC, and daughter Karen Knapp Friedman of Lake Ariel PA. He also leaves his devoted daughters Janice Humphries of Boerne TX and Carol Tremont of Wethersfield CT from his marriage to Lorraine Beaupre Knapp. Walter adored his granddaughters Shawna Wainwright of Marlborough CT and Lauren Thomson of Boerne TX as well as his great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Walter felt blessed to have spent the past 23 years with his partner, Delores Fitzgerald. She was his lifelong friend and never left his side during his final illness. They loved to travel, took many cruises and enjoyed their favorite summer vacations on Block Island.

Walter was very proud of his Native American heritage. His grandmother was a member of the Lanape tribe and he enjoyed the tribal ceremonies at the many powwows he attended.

He had a long career as a civil engineer and supervisor of many building projects in the greater Harford area. He loved his work and had an amazing memory of all his jobs; laying sewer lines, building catch basins and manholes, all described in great detail.

What people will remember most about Walter was his loving heart. He was upbeat, always providing encouragement especially to young people. He had such a positive energy that you always felt better being around him.

We are forever grateful to have shared this life with him. He will be greatly missed.
