Walter J. Clark OBITUARY

Walter J. Clark, of Colchester, passed away peacefully at his home on July 2, 2024, with his beloved and attentive family by his side. He was 102 years old.

Walter was born in Norwich on March 6, 1922. He was a son of the late Walter F. and Cora (Adams) Clark. He attended local grade and trade schools before enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was soon after activated to serve in the combat infantry in Europe during WWII. Walter’s military service included The Battle of the Bulge and The Battle at Remagen as well as the liberation of the Dachau camps. His service concluded in Nuremberg during the Trials.

Walter married his beloved wife—Rose A. Lehmann—on September 1, 1951. The couple moved to Colchester where they settled to raise their family and create a vegetable farm. The couple enjoyed living part of the year in Port Orange, Florida after their retirement and Walter relaxed fishing from the pier near their home and enjoying working in their large backyard. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage before Rose predeceased him on August 23, 2015. Also preceding him in death—his parents; his son, Kevin P. Clark; sisters, Amelia Clark, Charlotte Clark and Sylvia Scopino, as well as a brother, Edward Clark.

Walter retired in 1987 after a lengthy career as a heavy equipment crane operator, the majority with Associated Construction Company of Hartford. He was an active member of St. Andrew Church in Colchester. Walter will be remembered as a hardworking individual who treated family and friends devotedly.

He is survived by his son and caregiver, Thomas and spouse Laura Clark of Colchester; son, Mark and spouse Margaret Clark of Mooresville, NC; his grandchildren, Erin, Christie, Kelly, Katie, and Colleen; four great- grandchildren; several nieces; and many extended family and friends.

Walter’s family will receive friends from 9AM-10AM on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester, CT 06415. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated following the visitation at 11AM at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Ave., Colchester. Burial with military honors will follow at New St. Andrew Cemetery.
