Vito J. Bonito OBITUARY

Vito J. Bonito, 92, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024 with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Jeannette (Millette) Bonito for 66 years. Born in Hartford, son of the late Antonio and Mary (Pierro) Bonito, he was a longtime Newington resident and a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church. Vito honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a foreman for Keeney Manufacturing and continued working beside his son in the family owned Mobil gas stations in his retirement. Vito loved going to the casino, getting lottery tickets and was a 1976 $10,000 lottery winner. He enjoyed vacationing, camping and golf. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the UConn Basketball teams. Above all, he loved time spent with his family. Along with his wife, he leaves his four children, Anthony and his wife Malinda of South Windsor, Sandi Dolin-Ostrowski of Berlin, Michelle Royer and her husband Ken of Newington, and Andrea Callahan and Joe Casertano of Newington, and five grandchildren, John-Vito, Mike and his wife Jenna, Matt, Eric and Kimberly and her fiancée Jake, and great grandchild Cody Matthew Gagnon. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Joyce Cyr of Newington, best friends Paul and Jan Pace of Newington and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings Rose Valente, Grace Lewis, Joe Bonito and Anthony Bonito. His family wishes to thank Vito’s medical caregivers including Dr. Hosmer, Dr. Saucier, Masonicare and Hartford Healthcare Hospice for their compassionate care. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 8th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. His funeral service will begin on Tuesday, July 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Newington. He will be laid to rest with military honors in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington.
