Robert Edward Seagrave, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully at Middlesex Hospital on Wednesday July 3, 2024. He was born at home on November 4, 1937, to the late Walter and Ruth (Champion) Seagrave of Middletown. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Barbara (Augeri) Seagrave of Middletown and Higganum, sons, Robert E. Seagrave, Jr., Jeffrey J. Seagrave, and Joseph W. Seagrave of Higganum, two grandchildren, Joseph J. Seagrave and Chelsey Seagrave, his eldest sister, Lillian Czapla of Middletown, his niece, Katherine Vinci and her husband Benjamin and their four sons, nephews, James Seagrave and Gerald Seagrave, also several cousins and extended family. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth E. Seagrave, Eleanor Ashworth, brothers, John C. Seagrave Sr., and Walter A. Seagrave, Jr. Upon graduating Woodrow Wilson High School in 1955, he married his high school sweetheart Barbara Augeri in 1957. Together they purchased their home in Higganum where they raised their three sons and taught them a love of nature, hunting, and fishing. Robert was part owner with his father and brothers, John and Walter Jr “Bud,” of Seagrave’s Filling Station on East Main Street in Middletown that his father opened in 1927. Robert and his wife bought the Rockfall Garage in Rockfall in the 1970s. After selling the garage in 1989 he worked for the State of CT at the powerplant at CT Valley Hospital where he retired in 2001. Robert then took his dream vacation where he drove his Buick Riviera to Alaska. He left CT and drove by himself through Canada to Alaska and back the whole length of the Alaskan Highway. It was quite an adventure for him. In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman and hunter and was not shy about skipping school to do so with his buddies. Robert also loved bluegrass music and played the banjo for many years. We as a family enjoyed going to multiple bluegrass festivals over the years including the Berkshires Mountain Bluegrass Festival which was a three-day event. There are many great memories of friends and family get togethers over the years, he will be missed. Robert’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the 7th floor at Middlesex Hospital. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday July 10th at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
