Phyllis (Anderson) Livingston OBITUARY

Phyllis Ruth (Anderson) Livingston, 90, of West Hartford, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Doctor Robert Livingston. Daughter of the late Ethel (Moulton) Anderson and Stanley Anderson, she was born October 7, 1933 in Hartford, CT.

Phyllis was raised in Cromwell, CT until her family moved to Rye, NY where she was a Drum Majorette for the Rye High School Band. She attended Elon College in North Carolina on a Piano Scholarship. She played piano for church as well as on a radio show. Phyllis and Bob’s life together began when they met on Coventry Lake. After they married, they spent a short time with Bob’s parents on Rumford Street in West Hartford where they started their family. They moved to Vermont while Bob attended the University of Vermont Medical School. When Bob graduated, they returned to CT for their remaining years, other than two years in Texas. Phyllis was a model Mom, devoted to caring for her four children. She spent countless hours working in her rose and other flower gardens while watching for butterflies. She was a member of the Rose Society with a garden in her name at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford. She and Bob enjoyed Thursday nights and many trips with their wonderful group of friends, the Arborios, Friends, and Rentzes. Gram/Grama was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who, until the end, took care of her family and was concerned for all in the most wonderful ways. She will be greatly missed.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Robert Livingston and his wife Sara (predeceased), Debra Walker and her husband Rich Ellegard, Scott Livingston and his wife Laurie, and Stephen Livingston; her six grandchildren, Katie Livingston, Melissa Salvatore, Colin Walker (predeceased), Lauren Walker, Niki Livingston, Jennifer Livingston; her three great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Peyton, and Chase Salvatore; and her brothers, Dick Anderson and Stanley Anderson and his wife Charlene. She was predeceased by her sister Beverly Anderson.

At the family’s request there will be no calling hours and all funeral arrangements are private.

Phyllis was very aware of the impact Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) can have on individuals and families and she cared deeply for the efforts made by the Brain Injury Association of Connecticut to bring awareness of this condition. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the Brain Injury Association of Connecticut (biact.org), 200 Day Hill Road, Suite 250, Windsor, CT 06095 or call 860-219-0291.
