John (Jack) J. Zalucki, Sr. OBITUARY

John Joseph Zalucki, Sr. “Jack” was born in Hartford, CT to Rita (Sheehan) and Matthew Zalucki on April 28, 1954. He is survived by his loving wife Kathryn Gentile Zalucki of 43 years. He retired from the Hartford Post Office and previously worked for Emhart in Windsor where he met Kathy. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving and caring family on Saturday, June 22nd.

Jack grew up in Hartford before his family moved to West Hartford. He attended St. Brigid School, graduated from Northwest Catholic High School and attended Central Connecticut State University. He was a member of the Northwest Catholic Championship Basketball Team of 1972 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. Jack and Kathy moved to Enfield in 1986 where they raised their family. He leaves behind his children Kevin (Shannon), Keith and John, his two grandchildren Brooklyn and Boston who he adored, along with family dogs Sky & Knight. He also leaves behind his brothers George (Eloise), Norman (Diane) and sister Mary Ann Hall (Jeff), sisters-in-law Liz Zalucki, Chelly Murphy, Cindy (Paul) Rothe, Susan Gentile, and bother-in-law Michael (Sue) Gentile and mother-in-law June Gentile, many cousins and many, many nieces and nephews spread across the United States. He was predeceased by his parents Rita and Matthew Zalucki, brothers Matthew & Robert, sister-in-law Joyce Zalucki, father-in-law Michael Gentile, brother-in-law Mike Murphy and nephew Rob Zalucki.

Jack passed his love for sports especially basketball and baseball to his sons who he proudly coached along with hundreds of aspiring young Enfield athletes for many years with Enfield Soccer, Thompsonville Little League, Thompsonville Senior League and Saint Martha’s Travel Basketball Team. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 50 and St. Martha’s parish. Jack was quite the comedian and loved making his children, grandchildren, and friends laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family members, friends, K of C buddies, talking on the phone with his brothers and sister, watching Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics games, old movies, especially Andy Griffith and the Rifleman. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and sitting on the front porch for hours.

The family would like to personally thank Peter Czajkowski for all his help and support over the years. We considered him as one of us – a member of the Zalucki family.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 6th from 11 AM – 1 PM at Browne Memorial Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT. Burial will be private and held at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack’s memory to Enfield Loaves and Fishes, PO Box 544, Enfield, CT 06083 or to the American Heart Association.
