James H. Mittica OBITUARY

James Henry Mittica, 81, a resident of Avery Heights in Hartford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, under McLean Hospice Care. Prior to entering Avery Heights in 2021, Jim lived in Newington for 52 years.

Born January 21, 1943, in Hartford, Jim was the son of the late Michael and Phyllis (Infante) Mittica. He was the husband of his loving wife Cheryl (Codraro) Mittica for 57 years. He leaves a brother Robert Mittica and many loving cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia Mittica.

Jim was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, Class of 1962. Following graduation, he worked for the CT State Highway Department for several years where he met Cheryl.

In April 1964 he joined the Army National Guard of Connecticut and served until 1970.

In 1995 Jim enrolled in a two-year program at Hartford State Technical Institute, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Information Technology. He worked for several companies before joining Northeast Utilities in 1976, retiring in 2001 from Eversource after 25 years of service.

Some of Jim’s fondest memories were vacations on Sanibel and Captiva Islands with Cheryl, family and friends. His interest was piqued early on while watching and talking with treasure hunters on the beaches of Florida.

In 1981, Jim started a small part-time business, J&M Metal Detectors, his pride and joy. He spent many happy years assisting his customers in finding their treasures – whether lost or new.

The family is grateful to the nurses and aides at Avery for the care given to Jim over the past few years.

Jim’s funeral and burial were held privately by his family.
