Gertrude Seremet OBITUARY

Gertrude (Nowicki) Seremet, 102, beloved wife of the late Edward S. Seremet, Sr., departed from this life on July 8, 2024, into the arms of Jesus, whom she dearly loved. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Atty. Henry Nowicki and Anna Borawski and the late Stanley Borawski. Gertrude graduated from New Britain High School and Columbia University-College of Physicians and Surgeons, as a dental hygienist. She was a member, past president and vice president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Polish American Club, and an emeritus member and past president of the Newington Republican Women’s Club. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church, where she taught in the CCD program for 16 years. She was a member of the Indian Hill Country Club, Newington, for over 30 years, and the ladies Nine Hole Group, serving as Chairlady for many years. In 1941, she was presented as a debutante at the Gala Polka Ball given by the Kosciuszko Foundation at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves her two sons, Edward S. Seremet, Jr. and his wife Laura, of Bluffton, SC, and Thomas J. Seremet and his wife Pamela of Nashua, NH. She was blessed with five grandchildren: Daniel and his wife Meghan, Andrea and her husband Michael, Alicia, Bethany and her husband Irvin, and Kelsey, who all called her “Babci”. She had four great grandchildren: Myra, August, Sebastiano, and Selah, all of whom had a special place in her heart. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her son, Frederick Seremet and his wife Nina Seremet, and her sisters and brother.

Gertrude was Catholic and a born again Christian and believed in Jesus Christ as her Lord, God and Savior. She was a warm and loving person who made a difference in every life she touched. She now rests with Jesus, but will live in our hearts in memories forever. Gertrude passed away at Jefferson House, Newington. Her family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the director, recreation department, dietary, nursing staff, maintenance staff and her extraordinary social worker for all the care and compassion and patience they showed her during her stay at Jefferson House since June 4, 2015.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Words of Remembrance will be shared at 6 pm. Her funeral service will begin on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 9:00 am, at Newington Memorial, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church. She will be laid to rest in Center Cemetery, Newington.
