Dr. Kathleen D. Hughes OBITUARY

Worcester – Dr. Kathleen D. Hughes of Worcester, MA, formerly of Windsor, CT, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Northampton, MA to parents Daniel Doyle and Ruth (Flemming) Doyle. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Dr. Edward W. Hughes (“Ted”), as well as her sister Ruth Anne (Doyle) Tompkins. She leaves behind her daughter, Dr. Sarah Hughes, and granddaughter, Emily Hughes of Worcester, MA, as well as her son Colin Hughes, and her grandson Zachary Hughes of Windsor, CT.

Kathleen, known as “Eenie” to those closest to her, worked hard to pursue her education. She attended Smith College and went on to receive her doctorate in clinical psychology at UMASS. Through her work she met her husband, Ted, a psychiatrist, in Holyoke. They married and settled in Northampton where they started a joint practice.

Family was what mattered most to Kathleen, and she always put them first. Summers were spent on Highland Lake, even though she didn’t know how to swim! Holidays were special and Christmas was her favorite, where one of her special wax angels was always on the top of the tree. She loved good food and was always finding new recipes to try at home and searching for good restaurants when we traveled. Cheesecake became her favorite food towards the end of her life, with a definite preference for chocolate. She loved to read and never went anywhere without a book and could often be found reading the newspaper for hours.

Kathleen was honest and kind, funny and had an amazing sarcastic sense of humor. She will be missed by her family who are incredibly grateful for all that she gave them. We are thankful for the care that her caregivers provided to her at the end of her life so that she was able to stay at home with us these past four years: Patience Ntim, Gabriel Gedman, Denise Lake, Amy Lyons and Dianna Banda. We are also grateful to the Notre Dame Hospice team and Dr. Sarah McGee for all their support.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. www.milesfuneralhome.com
