Christopher Allen Pitt OBITUARY

Chris was born on April 20, 1943 and set sail on his final journey on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Chris was a Simsbury resident for 32 years and he leaves his beloved wife Mary “Beth” Stannard, sons – Jon Pitt and Andy Pitt, as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers – Fred, and Charlie and many nieces and nephews.

Chris began his banking career while still in college at the Willimantic Trust company and upon graduation he joined the Connecticut Bank & Trust Company. In later years, he became president & CEO of the Northwest Community Bank. Chris created the first formation in Connecticut of a mutual bank holding company (a template to be followed by other banks) bringing Northwest Community Bank and Litchfield Bancorp together as Connecticut Mutual Holding Company, but remaining as separate entities.

In addition to being a Director of the Northwest Connecticut Community Bank, Mr. Pitt served as a board member of the Northwest Connecticut Community College foundation, the Northwest Connecticut United Way, the Northwest Connecticut YMCA, and the Norwich Free Academy. He was also a member of the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of Simsbury‘s “Septemberfest”, Director of the Winsted Hospital, and President of the Norwich Jaycees. In 1999 he was honored by being named Man of the year by the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce for his service to the community. He was also involved with his church serving as senior warden of Saint Albans Episcopal Church in Simsbury.

Growing up on the shore in Connecticut has instilled a love of the sea, which has taken him sailing to many Caribbean Islands, captaining vessels as large as 50’. Upon retirement, Chris and his wife, Beth of 63 years, moved to Saint Augustine, Florida.

There will be a celebration of Chris’ life at the family home (Pittsport) in Westbrook on Monday, September 2nd at 3pm.
