Camp Courant Graphic

Hartford’s Camp Courant began as a summer excursion fund in 1894 and has become the nation’s largest free day camp. For over a century, Camp Courant has provided free summer activities for city children.

Over the years, broad based community support has resulted in the expansion of programs and services for up to 2,500 children during the summer months. Children between the ages of five and twelve participate in a wide range of recreational and educational programs for six weeks each summer.

All of the services are free, due to support from corporations, foundations, individuals, community groups and government grants. In-kind support provided by The Hartford Courant and other organizations helps keep administrative costs to a minimum, resulting in more services being available for the children.
