UPDATED:

Sparkler Learning announced a team-up with the CT Office of Early Childhood and United Way of Connecticut’s 211 Child Development to bring the start of Camp Sparkler: A free, eight week, virtual summer camp for families and children 5 and under.

Starting Monday, July 8, families will find a weekly lineup of stories and activities on their Sparkler app, per a statement.

“Each week, families will find a story told by someone from the culture where it originated, as well as a lineup of off-screen, play-based learning activities for parents and children to play together,” according to a statement.

The top 100 families who participate the most throughout Camp Sparkler will win Target gift cards as well, the organization said.

“Welcome to opening day of Camp Sparkler 2024,” said OEC Commissioner Beth Bye. “I think this is going to be a tremendous time of growth and learning for young children across our state this summer.”

The launch took place July 8, where Milford Public Schools shared this week’s story: “The Legend of the Coquí” from Puerto Rico, according to the organization.

“We are excited to offer this free, virtual summer learning opportunity to children and families across Connecticut,” said Dana Stewart, director of education at Sparkler. “We can’t wait to take an imaginary trip around the world with Connecticut families this summer — all thanks to the power of stories.”

Here is the full breakdown of weekly topics:

  • Week 1: July 8-14 — The Legend of the Coquí (Puerto Rico)
  • Week 2: July 15-21 — The Magpie’s Nest (United Kingdom)
  • Week 3: July 22-28 — The Flying Africans (USA)
