Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed two people on Route 5/15 in East Hartford on Thursday as they were standing outside a vehicle that had been involved in an earlier crash.

The victims were hit on Route 5/15 South just past the on ramp from Interstate 84 West shortly before 1:20 a.m., according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said a 2004 Honda Accord driven by a 20-year-old New Haven woman became disabled following a crash and was stopped in the right lane of two when she and two passengers got out of the car and into the right shoulder.

One of the passengers, 21-year-old Jaheem Miles of Hartford, and a pedestrian, 18-year-old Moncrieffe Marlon of Hartford, gathered near the Honda when they were hit by a Nissan Rogue headed south in the right lane, according to state police.

The driver of the Nissan fled the scene on foot and has not been identified, state police said.

Marlon suffered injuries “not compatible with life” and was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. Miles suffered serious injuries and was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to state police.

The Honda driver and second passenger, a 19-year-old man from Hartford, were taken to Saint Francis Hospital for minor injuries suffered during the earlier crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Any witnesses or motorists in the area with dashboard camera footage have been asked to contact Trooper Michael Dean at 860-534-1098 or michael.dean@ct.gov.
